After an extended DL stint to begin the year, KW hasn't fared well in limited action so far. In 5 games so far, his ERA sits at 18.90 with a WHIP over 3.5. Small sample size? Sure, of course it is. But when you consider his performance last year it can be worrying. I for one want Kerry to succeed, and it's not good to see him doing so badly.

However, as angsty as I got over Kerry Wood not returning to the Cubs after 08, it sure is looking like it was for the best now.

I'm sure that contract is a big regret for the Indians and their fans right about now, even if it only goes for (i think) one more season after this. I know the Indians had expected to contend, but for a smaller market team to give a closer $10M a year, especially one that has only had 1 year of actual closing experience and a long long list of injury issues throughout his career, it just boggles my mind.

I look forward to Kerry coming back to the Cubs... as a special advsior or community relations representative.

He still does a lot of charity work. I could see him or Sarah securing a position with Cubs Care.

I'm a huge Kerry homer. I would love to see him retire in a Cubs uniform. Just have one last season in the sun at Wrigley, perform somewhat decently, and have Kerry Wood day on the last home game of the regular season.

It will never happen, but he's one of my all-time favorite Cubs, so I can dream.

Terrible contract given out by Shapiro, the most overrated GM in recent memory. Wouldn't surprise me if this was it for Wood. He hinted at retirement in the past when he was injured constantly with the Cubs.

He was throwing mid-90's, but there was hardly any movement and his breaking pitches were flat. I think those things will fix themselves as long as he doesn't try overthrowing.

I TOLD YOU SO

I was first ..NaNaNA NA

Wonder if he just shut it down and quit for season and come back next year at league minimum but in great shape.

As much as you guys and he hated the trainer that was brought in to teach yoga and stretching techniques it was one of his best years and he was in dynomite shape

Asked whether Wood could be the kind of difference-making bullpen arm his team figures to be shopping for in July, one AL executive laughed. "He is if he can go back to 1998," he said.
