The New Jersey Nets were on the verge of acquiring Carmelo Anthony from Denver on Friday after the three-time NBA All-Star agreed to terms, the New York Post reported.

Anthony had made no secret of his desire to play for the New York Knicks, but they lacked the pieces to make it happen.

His next choice was the Chicago Bulls, who quashed the deal by refusing to include center Joakim Noah.

I don't think the Bulls are very far behind the Celtics and Magic. Unfortunately that is not the case with the Lakers and Heat.

Bulls should be overwhelming favorites to win that division (you'd think)

If Bogut is healthy, no.

You must not have heard. Derrick Rose said he's good at 3s now.

Must have been what allowed him to make the cut for Team USA over the superdupermegastar from Boston.

Oh wait, I forgot Rondo quit the team on his own accord.

Do you guys believe that we could've had Melo if we forked over Noah? I didn't really read anything that made it seem like it was THAT close.

I'm a bit surprised about Melo agreeing to an extension. I don't think that Nets team will be good for awhile without Favors and Harris.

Posted

supposedly he hasn't agreed to go to NJ yet, and that was premature.

anyways, i wasn't sure if i wanted to trade noah for melo until now

Per Alex Kennedy's twitter:

Noah has popped up in trade rumors but he won't be moved. The real drama unfolding is the Bulls trying to ink an extension with Noah's camp.

The contract extension the Chicago Bulls offered Joakim Noah several weeks ago was actually a five-year, $57 million deal. Noah isn't happy.

if he wants more than that and we could have melo for him and others, then ship his ass out. he's not worth more than that, and it's kind of annoying that he thinks so.

im kind of getting the feeling that the bulls can have melo right now if they include noah, and maybe denver is waiting to see how the negotiations between the bulls and noah unfold. it's possible that garpax would like to extend noah, but will consider trading him for melo if extension talks don't progress soon.

If he wants that much then trade him. That's ridiculous. I really like Noah and wasn't big on trading him until that report, but if it's true it's no good.

Just because he doesn't agree to an extension, doesn't mean we should trade him. Let him hit free agency under the new CBA when he will likely be in for a rude awakening and possibly not even make 8 digits. I actually think considering his Plantar fasciitis, the looming lockout and new CBA, and the fact that its an extension, that we offered too much.

if we can't sign him, denver definitely won't be able or willing to sign him.

Well its official the Miami Heat has changed its name to...

ESPN presents "The Miami Heat"

They are actually going to have a section on espn.com called "Heat Index" which covers only the Miami Heat.

It's hard when they keep talking about the Bears beating the Packers and being the only undefeated team in the NFC.

Lets keep this stuff in the Bears thread. It's all fun and games in there, but there's no need to take it outside of that.

Then tell him to keep the stupid Aaron Rodgers gif off the Bulls thread.

I don't care either way... but it seems a bit strange for it to be okay (and not what Old Style said) just because it's his "sig." What if Old Style's sig just said, "It's hard when they keep talking about the Bears beating the Packers and being the only undefeated team in the NFC," or whatever.

I'm not saying I don't see the difference, but it is a little bit of a strange distinction, especially since that Rodgers GIF is from a deciding play in a Bears/Packers game. But it really doesn't matter to me.

Look...this is getting way off topic. Trash talk about the Packers should stay in the Bears threads. Just like trash talk about the Bulls rivals should stay in the Bulls thread, etc. If anyone wants to further discuss it, PM me.

Already been beaten to death, but I don't really know what that has to do with ESPN being a bad network. Making the Heat their go-to team, on the other hand, certainly does.

Hearing that Team Melo + Denver stonewalled NJ deal for same reason: both sides waiting for Chicago to suck it up (Deng, Noah, 2 No. 1's).

Even though Melo is an elite player, if I'm Chicago I want to see my team play first before dealing. I love the Noah/Boozer combo w/ Rose.

i know it's cool to hate on simmons, but when it comes to basketball he knows what he's talking about, and he actually does get good info.

hopefully the bulls stand pat, because that's way too much to give up for melo imo

It's not that it's cool to hate on Simmons, it's just that he's a completely delusional idiot.
