...is hitting .327 with an OPS of .977 after a 3 for 4 night tonight.

He still drives me nuts with the defensive lapses and occasional lack of hustle on the basepaths, but if he can keep hitting anywhere close to that line I think even the mouth breathers might stop booing so much.

Soriano isn't as bad is he is when he's cold or as good as he is when he's hot. He's not gonna keep this up and he's not gonna hit like Aaron Miles. You just enjoy this ride, put him on your fantasy bench for a week and wait until he takes another precipitous dip. Rinse and repeat. At least he looks healthier this time around. I love him when he hits, I really do.

I doubt he's gonna hit .327 or put up a .977 OPS seeing as how he's never done that before in his career, but he might be up some good numbers this year. I think the common fan gave up on him too quickly this year. There was a legit excuse for his struggles last year (knee injury) and we should have owed it to him to at least give him a couple months before deciding he was finished. That said, Soriano definitely did not make it easy on himself by playing historically bad defense all season so far.

Bottom line, I would be quite happy if Soriano could put up an .850 OPS for the season.

You can pretty much say that about every player in baseball, but yeah, Sorianos extremes are much more than most players. If we can get .275/.325/.500 type numbers out of him over the next few years, which is around his career averages Ill take it, as long as his defense isnt too costly.

The fact is, his contract is what it is, and theres nothing anyone can do about it, so we may as well just stop talking about it. Hes not going to be Pujols or Braun, but if he can give us some solid production out of the 5-6 spot, Ill take it.

I fully support moving him up to bat 4th (and Soto 5th) until Aramis warms up.

Agreed. When Aramis heats up move him up to 4th and Sori to 6th behind Soto who is walking at a ridiculous rate so far.

Id leave Soriano right where he is. He seems like one of those guys who doesnt respond well to change, and when he get in his grove, you dont want to disrupt it.

that's soriano's april line from 2009. let's not get too excited yet.

Isn't that about when he got hurt?

exactly. I still wonder how the cubs continued to let him play when he was obviously in bad shape last year. But what ever so long as he keeps this up now
