because it allows you to watch the vid without opening up a new tab/window on your browser

 

yes, yes I know: are you that lazy you can't just close the tab/window when you are done with the video?

 

the answer is no, but I do find it convenient.

It would certainly be convenient. But I understand all the potential problems that it could cause and just opening a new tab isn't that hard.
