Joe Christensen of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that the Twins have inked Orlando Hudson to a one-year, $5 million contract.

And there we have it. Hudson, 32, is expected to take over starting second base duties in Minnesota. The "O-Dog" hit .283/.357/.417 with nine home runs, 35 doubles and eight stolen bases in 551 at-bats last season and should provide a nice spark at the top of the Twins' 2010 lineup. Nick Punto will slide over to third base and share time with Brendan Harris.

That's one hell of a 3B platoon

When you build a lineup with guys like Hudson, Hardy, Cudyer, Kubel, and Young around Mauer and Morneau, thats going to be a nice offense in MInnessota. Between that and the White Sox pitching, its going to be a pretty competitive 2 team race.

That's a nice deal for the Twins. He's light years better than Punto. And Harris is better than Punto (thought not by much) so he should garner more at bats at third. They could compete in that division.

That's selling the Twins a bit short. They are the best team in the division.

the twins payroll is almost 100 million now... in related news carl pohlad just died.

to be fair, the jacked up payroll is in part because of the new stadium.

Don't they have Thome too?

Yeah, which gives them some nice insurance for the OF. If somebody gets hurt (or Delmon Young decides he'll continue stubbornly refusing to imrpove his performance), Kubel can slide back out into the field and Thome can slot in at DH.
