Well, he was not boo'd today by the Card fans....that's a plus. And I think it's all gonna blow over after all. I suppose when he goes to the Maris kids town they will be sitting right over the dugout waving signs saying "We love you Mark"!

I know it's just a game, but some of us take it more seriously than others.

And of course TBFIB give him a big wet sloppy kiss at the home opener.

Why not? He can't change what happened in the past, and he seems genuinely sorry. I would be more embarrassed if the fans had booed him, because there's no reason to boo a guy for something he did 10 years ago that 75% of baseball was doing anyway. That's like booing players who have done amphetamines. You'd be booing most of them. I could understand booing if he tried to justify what he did. But he came clean (finally) and sincerely apologized.

As far as the Maris family, they are obviously conflicted.

Roger Maris' family says they were willing to accept Mark McGwire's apology on Monday and that they love him "like a brother."

But when it comes to the single-season home run mark? "Obviously, I think my dad still holds the record," son Rich Maris says.

I don't think he's genuinely sorry at all. I mean, the guy wouldn't even cop to the reason he used steroids. He said it was only for his health.

That said, I would rather he be met with no extreme reaction either way. He's a man with a tarnished reputation that now has a job doing what he knew best. He's not a hero or a villain.

Because real record-breakers use amphetamines.

He's not going to get booed anywhere, so you might as well get your post ready for that.
