That report doesn't mention if it's a "free to move on if not added to the roster by a certain date" type of deal.

Worth taking a flyer on, I guess.

I think we can disregard the catchers on that list - they are invited as a need, imho.

I'm not that surprised. Recent 1st round draft picks often get to spend a little time with the big club. They are both 20 already, Vitters having spent three years in the system, and Jackson having a terrific 1st year. I don't think it has anything to do with how close they are to the majors, but rather a reward for where they are. As for Jackson, he had the discipline thing last year, so he doesn't get the reward.

EDIT: To answer my own question, hes a career minor league righty reliever who split time between the Yankees and Angels systems, and landed with The Reds AAA team in 2009 where he posted a 3-1 with a 2.83 ERA and 1.22 WHIP.
