I knew he had a live arm, but I wasn't expecting the consistent 96-98 mph that he was throwing last night. Has anyone noticed in his other appearances if he's been that high?

Looking at Brooks Baseball's Pitch f/x tool, he averaged 95 on the fastball last night, 93 a couple nights ago, and around 90-91 the remainder of his outings.

Interesting...I must have only looked at the pitch speed on the faster ones. Still, he was throwing hard last night. Significantly harder than previous outings. I wonder if Larry made a mechanical adjustment or if he's pumping it up to try and impress management heading into next season.

I saw him pitch here in Memphis early in May or late in April against the RedBirds and he was practically unhittable for 4 innings if I remember correctly, his fastball was consistently in the low 90 and he had a really good breaking ball. They got to him in the 6th though.

I feel like that gun at Miller is pretty juiced up....

I think this is what it is too. I mean they had Shark regularly between 96-99, and he's more of a 91-94 guy as a starter.

I've been pretty impressed by what I've seen of Caridad since his call up. His command is better than I expected.

That's matches up with the scouting reports that I saw throughout last season and this season.

I think it's a case of working out of the pen. As a starter, most reports had him pegged in the high 80's/low 90's, occasionally touching mid-90's. A lot of folks got giddy over his AFL work last fall, when he was flashing mid-90's more, but that was in short stints, but this year, most reports had him down low 90's as a starter again, so I imagine that his is a result of reaching back a bit more out of the pen and letting it fly.

The announcers from the San Fransisco radio broadcast couldn't stop talking about Caridad's stuff, specifically his mid-90s velocity. The Miller Park gun may have added a tick or two, but he's fast, no doubt, and with better control than I expected.

The move to the pen seems to have enabled him to let it fly. You expect he will stick next season? I do. I wouldn't mind seeing Grabow come back either...

I gotta believe that he gets a spot in the bullpen next year. Lou seems to be gaining faith in him more and more as the season drags on. Interestingly, his splits in the minors show that he has been dominant against righties, but lefties are hitting him over .100 pts higher.

Those are very typical splits for a fastball/slider pitcher.
