Not that it matters but how does their player blatantly go for a head shot and the then their team gets a power play?

And that's the most painful goal ever.

Hopefully SJ loses so we remain tied with a game in hand in the West. NJ won tonight so they remain tied in points with them having a game in hand.

The scoring binge over the last few games has pushed the Hawks up to 3rd overall in scoring average, behind Washington and San Jose (tied with Pittsburgh and Atlanta). They remain 1st in the league in scoring defense, which puts their scoring margin way ahead in first overall.

Interesting to read the varying perspective on the game last night. I watched it in fast-forward and saw it the way you guys did. Chippy (and often dirty) play by the Blues, horrid officiating and a clear difference in talent level on the ice. Which, of course, we're pretty used to seeing.

Then I read the Blues boards and it's "the Hawks are whiny little bitches," "the Blues outplayed the Hawks 80% of the game" (someone actually said that), and so on. There is some level of recognition among the fans here that they would like our team and would trade places with us in a heartbeat. But then they fall back into calling us bandwagon fans. Which is funny because I was going to Blues games a few years ago when there were less than 3,000 people in the building.

Overall, nice to see some production out of Kopecky, even if it was mostly because Ty Conklin was channelling his inner Cristobal Huet. And sucks to be Tkachuk, eh?

Anybody hear about the Hawks being interested in Ilya Kovalchuk?

Well, this blog post from the omnipotent "Eklund" says the Hawks are one team in the running.

I don't think I would do what it would take. Picks, prospects and a couple of our contributors (here I'm talking about guys like Versteeg, Sharp). And I'm not sure we need another sniper.

I'd hate to give up Sharp, but Versteeg I could easily live without. I'm extremely interested in seeing what it could possibly take.

Okay, for the sake of argument, I could see picking up a guy like Kovalchuk and dumping longer term contracts like Sharp and Versteeg. But that only works if you assume the Hawks will have no interest in signing him beyond this year. Which I don't know how they could do under the cap.

So, I'm still against it because it would upset the apple cart and probably not be that much of an improvement. Chemistry is very important in hockey, and I'd be worried about taking a couple forwards out and subbing in a new guy and then someone like Hendry or another guy from Rockford.

If we're going to trade some of our skill guys, which I agree will have to be done after the season, it needs to be for draft picks.

I can get behind that. I'm not really for or against it at this point, but I'm definitely interested in following it and seeing who gives up what for him.

But I do agree, if we're going to move some guys, I'd rather it be for picks than a rental. Should be interesting.

That sounded pretty.

The radio guys are making it sound like the Hawks are a step slow tonight. Will probably need a big effort the rest of the way from Niemi unless we can squeeze a few more past Giggy.
