Niemi has been one of the best backups in the league.

Next to Patrick Lalime of course.

I'm sure you've answered this plenty of times but how the hell can you be a Cubs, Bulls, Blackhawks, Packers fan and be from NW Indiana. Actually nevermind don't bother answering.

I'm not from NW Indiana, I'm from DeKalb.

The Bulls were the first team I liked followed by the Packers. Favre was the reason why I became a Packers fan. Then I hopped on the Cubs in 98 and I was always a casual Hawks fan. I know quite a few people that follow that pattern.

I hate that the WGN games force me to watch crappy non-HD with the opponent's whiny broadcasters. Seriously, it was like Cyno was calling the game with all the whining and bitching.

It's just odd. All Chicago teams except the Packers. Green and yellow? My dad taught me at a young age to hate all things Wisconsin. I was able to see Favre as the douche he is way back in 1994.

I just get mad at the Chicago area people who are Packers fans because the Bears were bad and the Packers good when they were growing up. Be impressionable whatever, but don't root for your region's arch rivals.

But whatever, to each their own.

Edit: Sorry, let's get back on track. With the win, the Hawks again have the best PPG of anyone in the Western Conferece and are third in the league behind the Devils and Caps.

Yeah because the refs kept TB from getting even a sniff of a real scoring chance last night.

I would think TB would be able to attract some decent canucks to call their games and enjoy the nice weather. Guess not.

First game of the season against the Blues tonight. Blues got a rare home win against Calgary last night. Mason started in goal last night, so likely Conklin tonight. But many Blues fans are arguing Conklin has played better and should be the starter, so this probably isn't a good break for the Hawks.

The Blues had success against the Hawks last year with a very hard 2-1-2 forecheck. I don't think it will be as successful tonight because our d-men are better than they were last year.

4-2 Hawks, and not just because I want to win the bets I put down at the bar last night.

Ugh, CSN blacked out tonight here so I have to watch on FSNMW. At least they have Panger now as a color guy to somewhat cover for Kelly's annoying style.

Nice cycling before that goal.

Yeah the Blues are playing tougher than I thought they would, but they can't clear their zone.

Campbell!

Like it. Pepper Conklin every chance you get.

And as an aside, did you notice the Honda saying "1:30 left on the power play," then "1:00" and then ":30"??? I've never heard them do that before at any game.

Nice productive 1st period. I thought the Blues started out strong, and then about 8 minutes in the Hawks just took over and were able to get on the board a couple times.

And hey look our offensive minded defenseman finally scored a goal

I fully expect some goonery/thuggery from the Blues in 2nd.

Oh yeah, Janssen will try to goad Eager into a fight. Eager tends to duck him, but Fraser will probably step in and get an ass whipping for his effort. No reason for the Hawks to fight though. It can only fire up the Blues at this point.

The disparity in talent between these teams is obvious.

I didn't realize the Blues were so bad (I didn't know they had so few points until just now). I thought that they'd build off of last year and make a playoff spot. They look horrible tonight though, allowing 21 shots in a period isn't too good.

Yeah everyone expected it, they just couldn't score the first 20 games or so. They beat Calgary last night -- they can play. But they need good bounces and real hard work because they aren't as talented as the top teams.

I bet you the PP scoreboard was malfunctioning or something. They do that in the NBA when the shot clock is down.

Yeah I didn't think about that. Could be. Will have to pay attention to if they do it when the Blues have a PP.

It's nice that we are tied for the least amount of games played and are 3 points behind Washington for the league lead (after this win).
