It may come down to that, or visa versa....odds are very good that the Cubs/Cards will finnish 1-2. It may come down to knocking S.F. out of the wild card!

That would be something, Huh?

That will never, ever happen. Plus, I'd rather have the Giants' incompetent offense vs. our pitching staff than "new murderer's row" or whatever they're called.

He/she is saying we might have to root for the Cardinals to beat other wild card contenders so we can win the WC.

Her post didn't make sense though, considering the Cards don't even play the Giants anymore this season. They do play Colorado in late September though, and we may be rooting for them in that series.

Sorry, I know the Cards make a west coast swing soon. Thot they would play the Giants.

I'd rather be rooting for Colorado to win to help the Cubs win the division.

let's say that when the cards play the rockies the cubs are 4 games back of st louis for the division, but tied with colorado for the wild card.

you'd still root for colorado?

if it would help the cubs get into the playoffs, of course i'd root for the cards. my love for the cubs will always trump my dislike for the cards.

I'd root for whatever outcome makes it most likely for the Cubs to make the postseason, regardless of whether it's as division champion or wild card. If it means rooting for the Cardinals that to me seems similar to the idea of losing the battle to win the war.

With 54 games left to play, the CUBS' magic numbers are.....

St. Louis 54
Milwaukee 50
Houston 49
Cincinnati 43
Pittsburgh 40

.... so their fate rests clearly in their own hands. Let's hope it stays that way.

oh, i thought your post meant that you'd rather root for the rockies no matter what the deficit to the cardinals was.

I do like pujols. that's it.

at least when you give cardinals fans a compliment, they appreciate it (usually)

compare this to me congratulating sox fans on burhehrhreles perfect game, and getting responses like "yea, wouldn't it be nice to have a pitcher like that?" or "yea, our no-hitters are actually not flukes in houston". ugh, sox fans.

I forget the details of this one, so I might have the story wrong, but remember back in 2003 when it would have been pretty beneficial for the Cubs for the Cardinals to beat the Astros in an upcoming series, and somebody asked Prior who he was rooting for...he said he hopes the Cardinals get their brains bashed in because Milwaukee would take care of Houston for us anyway.

Prior was such a badass. :[
