They should be working their arses off to turn him into Doumit, not Jeff Kent.

God, yes. He could literally be our new (and improved!) Mark DeRosa, in that he can spell all corner IF and corner OF positions and be our backup catcher. How many ABs does a backup catcher get in a year? I've got to think that 150 at bats of Fox over Koyie Hill would be worth a ton. If it was a role he would embrace, he could gobble up a lot of at bats.

I see Fox more as a potential replacement for Lee in 2011, meaning he would spend all of 2010 in a role similar to what he is playing now. That's really the only spot he fits on this roster.

I agree. Have him do what hes doing now next year, and if he keeps doing what he has been this year offensively, he should be given the 1B jon in 2011.

I know that there are great deal of non-athlete types that play first (picturing Jim Thome) but I feel spoiled by what D Lee has done defensively. What he does makes the shortcomings of guys like Theriot less noticable. I just can't possibly picture Fox being anywhere close to that. So now you make first base weaker defensively and makes the weaknesses of others more noticable.

I like building Jake up and then shipping the guy off to a team that can afford a weak defensive player somewhere.

Hopefully Vitters turns into what we want him to and can take third in 2012. Move Rammy to first and viola.

I just don't want this guy playing everyday unless one of our other defensive abombanations isn't off this team.

There is a drawback to him being the only back-up catcher in that Lou would hesitate to use him as a PH in games he didn't start and he'd pretty much have to stay in games he did start in case Soto were injured (at least, that's how I think Lou would see it).

Fox should be used as Matt LeCroy, when he's hot you find a spot to play and when he struggles/levels off, he becomes the key RH'ed bat on the bench.

Yep, LeCroy was Doumit before Doumit was Doumit.

Doumit is slightly better than Lecroy and Fox defensively behind the plate (although none are/were close to stellar). Doumit is probably the only one that could justify leaving him behind the plate for offensive purposes since he's the best hitter of the 3.

Yeah, I'm referring more to the usage pattern than anything else. Doumit is finally the ft catcher, but served that same role that I'd love to see for Fox for most of his career. I'd be working really hard (though I've been saying this for years as a big believer in Fox) to get him to be "good enough" at catcher to put him back there with certain pitchers/matchups. Then play him on the corners to spell everyone else and you have a very valuable bench player.
