''He's got till Friday,'' Piniella said of Zambrano's anticipated fitness for his next scheduled start, ''unless we put him in the bullpen for a couple of days. We might need him there in Cincinnati.''

Said Zambrano, when told of Piniella's comments: ''I'm not a reliever.''

That's a recipe for disaster. Zambrano doesn't want to pitch in relief, Lou is tempted to pitch him in relief.

I can see the following scenario play out. Zambrano gets up to warm up, sits down because he doesn't need to enter the game, his back tightens up; and then he can't pitch on Friday.

was this from a lou post-game conference? i gotta believe he's just talkin' out of his ass there and i can't imagine he's actually considering doing that. they'll still have 7 relievers after they (probably) send Samardzija down Tuesday.

Maybe that's really Lou's way of challenging the rest of the relievers (I'm especially looking at you, Aaron Heilman and Kevin Gregg). I just don't see anything good coming out of using Zambrano as a reliever.

Wait, so he'd be in relief AND pitch his scheduled start? Unless it's the postseason why even risk something like that?

Cause he wants to be like Dusty? That's how he ruined Aaron Harang
