Sox to Sox: Anderson for Kotsay

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox have acquired outfielder Brian Anderson from the White Sox.

Mark Kotsay and cash is headed to Chicago. It isn't yet clear if Anderson will be on the Red Sox major league roster. Anderson was hitting .238 with two homers and 13 RBI in 185 at-bats this season before being demoted to Triple-A Charlotte last week. The Red Sox waived Kotsay, who was hitting .257/.291/.324, after acquiring Adam LaRoche from the Pirates last week.

Really weird trade for them. I know BA wanted to be traded if the chance came up because he wanted to play everyday. But where are they going to play Kotsay? Seems either Fields or Wise are gone, unless Carlos is hurt again...

The trade was trash for trash. It's not like Fields and Wise are anything special either.

Right, thus my point. It's a weird trade that at this point doesn't look beneficial to either team.

Kotday was DFA'd, so the BoSox were just trying to get anything for him

Exactly. Who cares.

My thought exactly.

Now instead of paying Kotsay to play for whatever team he signs with after being released, the BoSox will pay him to play for the WS, and get Anderson essentially for nothing.

Josh Fields Wants To Be Traded

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 29 at 9:22am CST]

It worked for Brian Anderson, maybe it will work for Josh Fields, too. After being demoted to Triple A, the third baseman told Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times that he wants to be traded. Fields says he had a good meeting with White Sox GM Ken Williams, but hopes he's dealt before the deadline nonetheless.

The 26-year-old is hitting .220/.301/.354 this year and hasn't been able to find the power stroke that carried him to 23 homers in his 2007 rookie season.

What is it with bad White Sox players not understanding that you have to be at least decent to demand a trade?
