Gammons: MLB threatens to take All-Star Game from KC

I can't read it(ESPN Insider), but a summary I've read says Gammons is reporting that MLB is threatening to take away the All-Star Game from Kansas City if they don't withdraw their offers to 2009 draftees Aaron Crow and Chris Dwyer, because they are (apparently significantly) over slot. If that's true, that is a pretty disgusting move on MLB's part.

I hope the Royals keep their offers out. The slot system is so dumb; I want to see Selig do something dumb like that.

The thing is, stunts like this will freak the owner out and they'll make a decision they'd otherwise have let the GM make. There were rumors that MLB tried to limit the Cubs overslot maneuvers by threatening the impending sale.

Why doesn't he do something about the terrible inequities in the system that allow the Yankees, Red Sox, LAA, and other "big market" teams to spend as much as they want for 16 year olds in the DR?

Baseball is ran by a collection of people I don't much care for.

Having the All-Star Game in Kansas City will be boring. The city is small and Kaufman is in the middle of a huge parking lot with a couple of mid-range motels/hotels along with some chain restaurants the only things nearby. They're going to have to do one hell of a shuttle system if the Power & Light District and Country Club Plaza are going to be used.

Maybe they realized this and are trying to find a better city to place it at.
