I'd be VERY interested if someone has any links to the ridiculous things Ronny says on the Air.

If not, just post your favorite stories in here. This thread could become greatness.

A few of my favorites:

(While in Miami)

RON: Patrick, the mosquitoes down here, they've got stewardesses on em!

PAT: Are you trying to say that the mosquitoes are as big as planes Ron?

RON: No, I'm saying the stewardesses are HUGE!

(Playing the brewers)

PAT: What's that you've got there Ronny?

RON: AN OATMEAL COOKIE

PAT: Lyle Overbay up to bat.

RON: Do you think Lyle Overbay likes oatmeal cookies Pat?

PAT: I don't kn- Over bay lines a shot to left field. Alou not gonna get to that one and the Brewers lead 5-3.

RON: He can't have MY cookie though.

RON: Patrick, I tell ya, I had the BEST bowl of tomato soup I've ever had today.

PAT: Oh, yeah Ron, Why is that?

RON: Well, I spilled it and I didn't get ANY on my Pants!

PAT: Did you get any on your shoes there Ron?

RON: Oh, yeah, ah, there it is. Gosh Dang it!

(With Zumaya on the mound)

RON: His name remins me of that song, you know the one I mean Patrick?

PAT: I'm not sure Ron, jumbalaya maybe?

RON: YEAH! THAT"S IT!!!..... no wait, no, no, that's not it. Its that song that you sing at the campfire.

PAT: Kumbaya?

RON: That's it! Hows that song go?

PAT: I'm not sure Ron.

RON: I'm gonna have Andy Maizer get me a copy of Kumbaya.

(Next inning, Ron has lyrics in front of him and proceeds to sing...Badly)

PAT: You almost just changed my whole opinion of music Ronny...Almost.

I recall Ron giving the line on Ruben Quevedo when he was starting for Milwaukee. He told Pat that Quevedo reminded him a lot of a pitcher the Cubs had just a couple of seasons ago. Yes, he was thinking of Quevedo.

is santo's health ok? he's been out of the radio booth for awhile but i haven't heard an explanation.

From what I've heard he had either a bladder or kidney infection. I think he's getting better but from what I know (which isn't a lot and could me wrong) that's not a good sign to be getting those types of infections for a person with diabetes.

I had heard he had something wrong with his kidneys, I think.

Is that a santoism or just something you found when you opened a game thread.

PAT: And that's a balk called on [insert pitcher name].

RON: You know Pat, throughout my whole career I don't think I had one balk called on me.

PAT: You also didn't do very much pitching, did you Ron?

I like the one where there info sheet said Jerry Azumah was a former probowler and they assumed it meant professional bowling.

I love Ronny to death, as he's a Cub icon, but I think Keith Moreland has done a pretty damn good job in Ronny's absence.

Agreed. I could actually listen to Cubs' baseball on the radio. I haven't done that in years.

I remember there was one time that there was a Spanish speaking pitcher on the mound.

RON: Larry's going out to the mound now, and Ramirez is out there too. Larry is gonna talk to Ramirez and he'll translate it into Mexican or Latin, or whatever it is that they speak down there.

When I first heard Keith Moreland I thought it was Tim McCarver...Then the game went on for a couple of minutes and Keith didnt make any over the top, pompous, and mostly inaccurate game descriptions. So I had to listen to find out it was Keith. I think he has a good career in announcing if he wants to go that way.

I have a favorite exchange, but don't remember it exactly. I do recall the basics, and it involved Pat asking Ron about a September callup back in Ron's day. Ron was watching the game and said he didn't remember this guy at all. Pat now has him because Ron's not totally paying attention and Pat starts giving details about this guy to

a. try to get Ron to remember him

b. see how far he can take this while Ron's not really paying attention to him

So, Pat's saying, 'yeah, he was the backup at such and such position' etc. Ron keeps saying nope, don't remember. Then Pat starts throwing in stuff like, 'says here he was best man in your wedding, Ron'- and Santo is still just saying 'nah, don't really remember him Pat' and let the line about the wedding completely slip past him.

That's probably not exactly how it went, but I was loling.

From This Old Cub:

A caller phones the booth and let's Pat and Ron know that his girlfriend is a Mets fan, and doesn't understand why Cubs fans seem to despise her team so much. He wants to know if Pat and Ron can help him explain it to her.

Pat: Well, you've certainly reached the right person. What advice do you have our friend Ronny?

Ron: Dump her.

Anybody remember the Marissa Miller banter between Ron and Pat from last season?

This isn't verbatum, but I think the gist is there.

Pat: "You know, Ron, Marissa Miller will be at Wrigley Field tomorrow to throw out the first pitch."

Ron: "Really? Isn't that nice."

Pat: "That's right, Ron. The promotions staff was up here earlier asking if we could squeeze her into the broadcast for an inning--"

Ron: "Well we could sure squeeze her, alright."

One of my personal favorites, from the 2005 Cactus League:

Pat: "And Scott Spezio has entered the game at third base for the Mariners."

Ron: "Ohhhh... Scott Spezio... is he, uh, still in baseball, Pat?"

Pat: "Well, he's over there at third base, Ron."

WGN Radio released a "best of Pat and Ron" CD in 2005, covering the best broadcast moments since Pat signed on in 1996 and it was worth every penny. It was only available through direct order from WGN Radio themselves and I can't find a listing of any sort on their website, so it may be gone forever.
