Anyone hear anything about his status? He was projected to be getting back on a mound around now, so I'm curious if there are any updates out there.

Between Ben, Doc & Peavy, there's some top of the line pitching available for those willing to pay.

Not pitching this year, IIRC.

From ESPN:

Player News (last updated: July 3, 2009)

News: Jayson Stark of ESPN.com is reporting that Sheets (elbow) will not be physically able to pitch in the big leagues this season.

Spin: Stark noted that Jason Jennings underwent the same flexor tendon surgery in August of 2007 and wasn't able to return for a year and a half. Sheets' procedure was performed in February. Three teams have shown interest in Sheets, and he could possibly sign on later this year with a club he could help next season.

Damn. I was just thinking about this the other day.

Sheets would have been good, however, Im hearing that Mark Mulder is ready to go and wants to get started soon. Assuming hes willing to sign for just the remainder of this year, Id be all about taking a flier out on him.

Otherwise, I dont feel that starting pitching is that much of a concern at this time, and Id just assume wait until the offseason and re open the Peavy talks, or even the wiaver deadline, assuming were able to make such a deal at that point and hes off the DL.

Starting pitching is the one part of this team that is actually good. But then again, you can never have enough pitching.
It could get thin if Dempster is out longer than expected and Harden's health remains questionable.

Oh my God, stop. Mark Mulder hasn't been good in 15 years.

And sometimes you take a chance on guys like this if they come cheap.

I still remember back when the Cards aquired him for Haren. I thought we were screwed.
