Vitters fluff piece, with some interesting comments from Jim Callis.

http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/columns/story?columnist=powers_scott&id=4305913

It's his defense and Ramirez's contract, which doesn't end until 2012, that have led many to believe Vitters could still be three years away from playing in Chicago. Callis has a different opinion. If Vitters continues to progress the way he has, Callis could see him up with the Cubs sometime next season.

"You find room for a hitter like that," Callis said.

I'm going to throw out a 2008 draftee that's quietly been putting up good numbers in Daytona. He hasn't been setting the world on fire and my gut is that his future is as a utilityman (2B/3B), but nevertheless, he's been consistent and effective at the plate and in the field. Plus, as a left hander, we know he's an organizational favorite.

Jake Opitz

A .290/.352/.438 line with a 25/15 K/BB ratio isn't too shabby, especially for a 12th rounder senior sign.

Peoria going to get their game in?

They're under way. Reed Johnson and A-Ram didn't start, although Reed Johnson did get a PH appearance.

I'm guessing the Cubs are being cautious with the wet grounds and rain.

Aramis started at DH and is 0-1 with a walk. Reed took a walk too.

Ahhhhhh, right. I saw Flaherty at 3B and thought they gave Rammy the day off, but forgot he could have been DHing. That makes sense.

Through 3, Cashner has Kd 4, and allowed 1 run on 2 hits. No BBs, but 1 HBP. He loaded the bases with 0 out in the 2nd, but they only scored 1 on a sac.

Over in Peoria, Aramis has an RBI single, which accounts for the Chiefs only run.

5 double plays hit into by the Chiefs. One by Ramirez in the 1st.
