It defies logic why a pro ballplayer would want to develop this skill. Seems like a good way to develop a hitch in your swing.

 

When I was in high school I spent a couple of hours one afternoon getting the Willie Mays Hayes bat bounce down, giving myself a blister and hitting myself in the junk a couple of times to boot. Completely worth it.

The bat is probably not regulation. It's likely some sort of fungo or hollowed out wood bat.
