Jon Nagel gets the start for Boise on opening night tomorrow. Boise manager Casey Kopitze won't be with the team to start the season because his 2-month old daughter passed away. :( Franklin Font will be the interim Boise manager.

Unsurprisingly, rain delay for the Peoria game.

First inning for Tennessee and Colvin just hit another HR (4th in 3 games). After 1 at bat thus far, he's now slugging .688 and OPSing 1.053.

Colvin ends ups going 1/2 with a HR and a strikeout. And an ejection:

  • Tyler Colvin strikes out swinging.
  • Tennessee Smokies Tyler Colvin ejected by HP umpire Gerard Ascani.

Glad you pointed that out. I saw the box, that he had only 2 AB, and was figuring he'd gotten injured. So ejection is good news.

a real clusterf*** in peoria tonight. the chiefs won 12-10; they made 5 errors (hatley 2, vitters, lake, ridling) and their opponent made 6. there were also 2 wild pitches, 2 balks and a HBP. burke went 3-5 and a home run short of the cycle; vitters singled and that was it for him. flaherty hit a go-ahead 3-run homer in the 8th. huseby struck out the side to get the save.

my home town state college spikes, the worst team in minor league baseball last year, had a solid start to this season, losing 15-2 to williamsport. their pitching and defense were horrendous last year; tonight they gave up 13 earned runs and made 4 errors. way to go, spikes.

Burke also trucked the catcher after his triple to score on Ridling's Fielder's Choice...

*Kyler Burke triples (1) on a line drive to center fielder Jarrod Dyson. David Macias scores. Josh Vitters scores.

*Rebel Ridling reaches on a fielder's choice, fielded by third baseman Chase Fontaine. Kyler Burke scores. Rebel Ridling to 2nd. Throwing error by third baseman Chase Fontaine.

The Chiefs scored twice each in the fourth and fifth before their five-run sixth. Burke put the exclamation point on the first comeback by running through Burlington catcher Jose Bonilla with the tying run.

“I was going on contact, so as soon as it was hit, I was going,” Burke said.

Burke’s two-run triple put him at third base. When Ridling grounded to third, Burke arrived just as Chase Fontaine’s throw sailed past Bonilla.

“That’s part of baseball. From where I was standing, the catcher didn’t give him any part of the plate,” Pevey said. “He has to give him either the inside or half or the outside. He had both halves.”

If Nathan has the audio on this or if anyone has the video on this, I'd pay for it.

I can't find anything on who won the exhibition or what happened during it. If anyone digs anything up, please post it here.

Thanks!

Yeah, I was looking earlier. Nothing in the two Boise papers nor the Boise Hawks web site.

The Hawks had an easy time in their exhibition win over a primarily 35-and-over All-Star team from Boise, claiming a 21-2 victory - but it is for real on Saturday night vs. Tri-City.

Jose Valdez had a pair of triples, showcasing the speed that allowed him to swipe 26 bases in the Dominican Summer League last summer, while John Contreras, George Matheus, and Jae Hoon Ha each had three hits.

After Larry Suarez struggled with his command - exiting after two innings of a scheduled three inning appearance, converted pitcher Andres Quezada was impressive, fanning four batters.

The weather was more problematic than usual, as rain forced the start time back 21 minutes to 7:36 - as home plate and the pitchers mound was covered during the squall. More rain is in the forecast over the weekend - which probably will make usage of the Memorial Stadium tarp.
