Harden started to suck at the end of last season and it hasn't really stopped since. He can be dominant at times. I'm not sure what it is about him but he I feel like he's kind of smoke and mirrors. Not in the junk ball sense but he works so many long counts before he puts guys away. Usually they don't square him up like they are today but getting guys out seems like more of a struggle for Rich than it is for other pitchers with high K rates.

Since when has 7 mil been too much for a 28 year old starting pitcher with a 3.33 career ERA?

Since now that Harden's given up some runs and he needs to find someone to be pissed off about.

Maybe were just a 4th place team in a mediocre division and thats just the way it is. Theres a lot of blame to go around.

No I didnt just repeat what Gooney said. For me to count someone as being one of the best pitchers in the game they have to pitch like it when healthy, and do it consistently. Thats not Rich Harden, so therefore, hes overrated.

But he's not overrated. He's considered one of the best pitchers of the game when he's healthy and consistent.

Since when has 7 mil been too much for a 28 year old starting pitcher with a 3.33 career ERA?

Since now that Harden's given up some runs and he needs to find someone to be pissed off about.

Yea thats it.

Lets ignore that little fact that he was terrible near the end of last year, and has been terrible this year. But yea your right Im just trying to find something to be pissed about.

Rich Harden's starts at the end of last year, going backfrom the end of the season:

Sept. 25 6IP 2ER 4K

Sept. 18 5IP 1ER 7K

Sept. 11 6IP 2ER 3K

Aug. 29 5IP 1ER 5K

Aug. 24 7IP 1ER 11K

Those are his last 5 starts of 2008. That doesn't seem "terrible" to me.

I still don't see how he's overrated. His weak spots are noted whenever he is discussed. If he's really healthy right now, it's a new part of his game (sucking while being healthy). It was widely acknowledged he was not 100% late last year but the Cubs needed him to pitch and hoped he would be there. That's part of the reason why I was hoping they would be more cautious at the start of this year, instead of just throwing him out there every 5th day and then letting his pitch counts increase steadily until something happened.
