Not that its going to matter, but let's just say the Cubs were healthy and were going to start the playoffs tomorrow, would the roster look like this?

OF (4): Soriano, Fukudome, Bradley, Johnson

IF (8): Ramirez, Theriot, Fontenot, Lee, Hoffpauir, Fox, Blanco, Scales

C (2): Soto, Hill

P (11): Zambrano, Lilly, Harden, Dempster, Marshall, Wells, Gregg, Marmol, Waddell, Heilman, Guzman

I'd think that Blanco would be an excellent late-inning defender and that Hoff and Fox would be an adequate RH/LH pinch hitting crew. Scales over Fontenot because I think he's a bit faster and has more power. Freel is trash.

Patton would obviously be left off in the bullpen.

Let's hope we have to worry about all of this some day! This team has the potential and maybe by having to fight for it all season, we could build some momentum going into the playoffs.

First off, I don't think we'll carry 11 pitchers into the postseason. With only 4 starters (max), we can probably go with 9-10 pitchers and be fine. That would drop off Waddell if we go 10 and Wells if we go 9.

Offensively, Miles will almost certainly be there. If we go with 10 pitchers, I'd think you would just add Miles and maybe swap Fontenot and Scales. If we go with 9 pitchers, we'd probably go with Miles and both Fontenot/Scales.

And Fontenot has more power (at least normally) than Scales and I think he'd almost be a certainty to be on the postseason roster.

My guess is Waddell is long gone and forgotten by then. Agreed that Fox and Hoff will be nice off the bench, and Miles will surely be on the roster over Scales if hes still on the team.

If no trade for a middle infielder of some sort has been made by now, I cant imagine what kind of trade Hendry would be making at the deadline if any, unless of course the ownership is settled and we go after Peavy. Maybe sign Ray Durham as a backup or platoon partner for Fontenot.

Teams should go with 10 pitchers in the postseason. 9 isn't enough. Every manager goes with at least 11 though cause they're afraid they'll have Aaron Miles pitching the 18th. Managers are paranoid little weirdos.

I thought we went with 10 last year. ESPN's stats from last year have us with only 9 pitchers seeing action.

Those 9 + Howry and Lilly.

You would be correct. Don't know where I got the idea that we went with 10 pitchers then.

Agreed. And since we have precedence with Lou, 11 is certain. Maybe we can even win a game this time!
