I wouldn't say it was a terrible signing so much as it was a terrible contreact. Perez has been an adequate pitcher for the Mets over the last two seasons. Not good, but definitely a serviceable 4/5 guy. That contract is terrible though. What is it, $12M a year? Ouch. He's worth like $5-$8 mil a season, somewhere in there. Boras fleeced the Mets on that one

I sometimes wonder if Boras pushed Lowe towards the Braves, knowing the Mets would throw crazy money to Perez in desperation after losing out on Lowe.

 

As Desperate as the Mets were, the money was still insane. They were bidding against themselves for Perez.

i read somewhere that perez is a d-bag who doesn't really listen to pitching coaches - apparently when he was sent down by the mets in 2006 he wasn't listening to instruction and thought he was better than everyone because he made more money.

 

anyway, the mets had better hope that someone gets through to him because that contract is going to be bad news otherwise.

Last night on BBTN they said that Perez was going on the DL with a "knee injury" which they openly speculated was ficticious.

I'd seen speculation about something like that happening for several days now. That way they can send him to the minors on a rehabilitation assignment without him having to suffer the humiliation of actually being optioned to the minors.

I'm stunned. Boras put together an entire booklet showing how Perez was the best LH starter in baseball.

 

Sort of like when he printed a report (written by him) that proved to the Mets that Beltran was as good as Mickey Mantle.
