kicked florida's ass tonight. richards hammered booth and got 5 minutes for intent to injure even though he didn't leave his feet, used his shoulder to finish the check and laid the hit a split second after booth had dished off the puck on a pass. it'll be fun when richards gets 10 games for the type of hit that scott stevens made at least once a year without being punished.

What the hell has gotten into Colorado? They have started the season 9-1-2 and lead the NHL in points. Most people had them towards the very bottom of the Western Conference this year. Are they legit?

Wolski, O'Reilly and Duchene have all been playing so ridiculously over expectations, so far

Craig Anderson always put up terrific SV% in Florida, making the modest demand for him in FA really puzzling

Sacco's a definite early contender for Jack Adams, along with Tippett, Tortorella, Murray

wolski i think is for real. he has tons of talent. o'reilly is a good, hard worker...he might not be productive all season, but he's going to be effective. duchene is really talented, but he doesn't have any linemates to speak of.

their top line (wolski - stastny - hejduk) should be good all season -- it accounted for all 3 goals last night -- but the rest of the team is iffy. the defense might end up better than i expected, though.

the l.a. kings claimed randy jones. apparently they have a need for a defenseman who skates fairly well but is always out of position defensively.

They can have Campbell if they'll pay him.

actually they just needed an nhl defenseman that can sit in the press box.

fail

really, what are the rules supposed to be? you can't hit someone unless they see you coming? at some point there has to be a burden on the offensive player to keep his head up as he enters the offensive zone.

fantasysensehockey.net usually does a hilarious skewering for each of Eagleson's articles, she's pretty terrible

Yeesh, we think we have injuries. Not that my sympathy meter is moving at all:

Injuries and the disappearance of Datsyuk. I have a bad feeling that this may end up spiralling down. The upside is they should be healthy at playoff time and Franzen will not have the olympic grind to go through. I just hope they make the playoffs

yeesh, in a very short time they go from Draper being maybe the best 4th line C in the game to one of the worst 2nd line C in recent memory

i watched their meltdown against Pittsburgh, not pretty

Mason had a few pretty bad miscues that cost them a point in that one, he's not where he was last year at all

we've slaughtered our last two opponents 6-1 and 6-2, which is cool. still, all the news is not good as simon gagne has suffered his annual long-term injury and is out 6 to 8 weeks, and danny briere and ryan parent have started to have some groin problems.

we have good depth at forward (james van riemsdyk is looking like the real deal) but if we have to play syvret and tollefson for most of the season, we're not going to have any shot at winning the division.

in the end, Wisniewski sits 2 for a much cleaner hit than Richards'- you had your cynical scenarios reversed

right except richards' arm was in against his body and the hit was made with the shoulder, whereas wisniewski put his arm out and did the contact with his forearm and elbow, so it wasn't much cleaner at all.

On the subject, Ohlund absolutely smoked Kessel tonight.

No penalty for the hit, though he did end up with two for roughing in the obligatory scrum after the hit.

Totally clean. Will be interested to see how Toronto (the league) views it though, given it happen to the Leafs and it was Kessel's first game back.
