Garon could very well be the best shootout goalie in the league

it also turns out Mason's been playing through back spasms, so i'm absolved of my he'll be fine comment

Garon has an 18-4 record in shootouts. That's insane. He credits it to being aggressive (he comes all the way out to the hash and then retreats as the shooter comes towards him)

i credit it to the fact that he's by far the most flexible goalie i've ever seen. always wanted to see him get a real chance to start for a team, think he could've done good things. he had the one season with the kings where he got 63 gp, but that was behind a terrible defense. at times he managed to win games on his own anyway.

fuckin stevens. played a real solid road game for 2 periods, giving up only 18 shots, then got a 2 goal lead in the 3rd and then sat back and came inches from giving up the lead (21 shots allowed in the 3rd). this [expletive] has to stop.

p.s. the kings' 2 minute 5-on-3 was complete horse [expletive] as was the lack of a call when dan carcillo got cross checked face first into the boards. nhl officiating is such a pile of crap.

too many undisciplined penalties last night in a 6-3 loss to the sharks... 4 high sticking minors alone. emery didn't have a very good game either. giroux was our bright spot with 2 goals and an assist... he's been kind of snakebitten on goals so far this year so i'm glad to see him get a couple.

As Panger called it, "Holy Jumpin'!"

Perron just scored the goal of the year. Blues might be getting their act together.

stamkos's is better.

agreed.

Nah, Stamkos showed great hand-eye coordination, but Perron's took more overall skill. And it's not like he breezed just any defenseman -- Streit is pretty good.

Kane's spin-around goal vs. Minnesota was better too, imo

i'm surprised nobody's brought up Cls loaning Filatov to the KHL yet. this is probably the best prospect in the game, and they're going to be forced to trade him in a couple months (or be stuck in some sort of Radulov limbo/purgatory, or lose him to Russia outright) because Hitchcock can't fit him into his system, for some reason. you couple that with Voracek and Brassard having their offensive ability somewhat squandered, it's really hard to think Hitch is the best coach for that team at this point. if they don't make a serious playoff run, i think they have to bring in a better fit to suit their young talent.

I agree. I read about Filatov's problems a few weeks ago. I haven't seen much of Columbus this year, but I understand that Hitch has really put a muzzle on him and is expecting too much two-way play out of him.

Now, I have expected the exact same thing out of Kane so far, but Q has taken the right approach with him. Columbus is obviously a team on the rise. If they falter, I agree, Hitch will have to go.

i thought the filatov loan was like a mutual thing that both parties thought would be beneficial to him. he goes back to a place he's comfortable to get his game back on track and work on the things they want him to work on. i don't think this is like the radulov thing where he basically just ditched nashville, if i'm remembering right.

Well, I guess the Bulin Wall didn't just have the "Chicago flu," as Pat and Eddie called it the other night. And I also guess Deslauriers isn't as bad as he looked. Shut out Phoenix last night.

that was the PR game both sides played, but i'd be quite surprised if it played out like that. Filatov was saying things to the effect of "the coach has his opinion of me as a player", i don't know what will be changed after a year in the KHL. Cls told him to gain muscle over the summer, and he did- coming into camp 20 lbs heavier, i think it was. is he going to really improve a whole lot on his defense playing in Russia? it has to be a Hitchcock thing, can you tell me that Filatov's less NHL ready than other rookies like Anisimov or Kulikov, who are consistently getting 15 mins/g of TOI?

anisimov is 2 years older and spent 2 full seasons in north american hockey before graduating to the nhl this year. filatov played half of one season (games-wise) in NA. kulikov might be more ready than filatov though, who knows? he's producing at the nhl level and filatov isn't. or at the very least the braintrust in florida doesn't mind him, whereas the columbus guys thought this would be the way to go. i don't think columbus would just give up on a highly touted first round pick like this, he'll be back in camp next season. if he can't make a serious go of it then, i'd be worried. he's still only 19 though. it's not like there's a serious rush. he says his "goal" is to play in the nhl. we'll see in 9 or 10 months.
