Markus Naslund is retiring after a long career which also is big money off the books for the Rangers.

Mike Keenan fired. I think this is kind of tough, I think if they come into the playoffs healthy they would have been a very interesting team.

Looks like Federov is going back to Russia to play.

I was hoping the Wings would consider bringing him back for a year to center the 3rd line when Hossa leaves. Truth is his value is probably still higher than that. He probably would have been the Capitals best defensive dman.

Is Hossa definitely gone? I hadn't heard that, though I can't say I was really paying close attention. No more Cup discount? Seems the best way to keep him would be to NOT win the Cup.

No chance to resign if the Cap comes down like its being predicted(realistically if it remains the same they would still need to trade someone like fillpula and let Samuelsson go to make it happen). His Cup discount was still the highest paid player on the team. The discount was that he signed for 1 yr instead of long term also.

I think the main strength of the Wings is that their 3rd line is probably the best in the NHL, it would be silly to dismantle that to keep Hossa. Losing Hossa will still be a big hit though. I think if the Hawks manage their offseason well, this can close the point gap in the regular season. Wings will probably sign one veteran forward and let Helms and Leino become regulars next season.

there's a rumor that the ducks sent pronger to the kings for johnson and the 5th overall pick..not a fan.

That would suck for the Kings.

Hockey is not the sport for huge guys. He can't have much (if anything) left on the odometer.

I guess it's good he stayed in the Pacific division and didn't go back to St. Louis (a big rumor down there). That way he stays out of the Central with his cheapshots and hits from behind.

I guess there is the thought that the Kings may be going all out to become very competitive next season. Pronger would improve the PP. This coupled with the rumours of LA going after Heatley. I dont think this is a disastorous trade for the Kings, I would rather just keep Johnson though. This move would really help Anaheim keep Neidermayer without that big of a dropoff with Johnson. I am really not sure why the Kings would be wanting to help a division rival so much. If they are willing to move Johnson, I am sure there are established d men in the east that teams would be willing to move to give them some cap space.

the thing is, if they move johnson, they have 2 decent prospects to replace him right away in Hickey and Voinov (and maybe Teubert, though he's still a bit off imo) without sacrificing too much (mostly since Johnson hasn't been that good yet). even without johnson, their D is passable

Doughty, Quincey, Greene, Harrold, O'Donnell + one of the kids isn't atrocious with their new committment to defense that they showed last year. I'd rather they keep Johnson and acquire scoring help (Heatley, Lecavalier, Gaborik, Havlat, and so on). That's where they need big help. I'd really rather keep Johnson and Frolov, though. those are the two names being thrown about in trades from the NHL roster. i think we have the pieces to make a big splash without giving up one of those two though.
