Heilman with another walk and then serves up another bomb. We're getting 2008 Heilman, not 05-07 Heilman. Good thing we overpaid to get this worthless piece of trash while we gave away a significantly better reliever for nothing.

Hendry deserves to be fired for the disaster this season is becoming. This is inexcusable.

And a home run to of all people Ryan Braun! He sucks and never hits home runs!

They should just give up now. I can't believe they are in last place and haven't even won a game yet. Unacceptable.

Nice worthless post. Are you saying that Heilman hasn't sucked this season? Are you saying that Jim Hendry's offseason moves haven't been terrible so far?

I guess your original worthless post deserved another, huh?

I am saying an average reliever gave up a home run to an all-star caliber power hitter. Guess what, it happens and it will happen again so if you plan on watching 162 games this year you probably should get used to it or you are going to have a coronary attack.

And no, I don't think Felix Pie (worthless) and Ronny Cedeno (worthless) is overpaying to get Heilmann even if I am willing to accept your hypothesis that he is also worthless.

The Cubs are over .500 and within striking distance of first place despite a lot of bad luck so far with injuries. Hardly worthy of the "disaster" description.

But the bottom line is that you hate Hendry and pretty much criticize every move he makes so every time something goes wrong you get all excited and break out your "the season is over and it is all Hendry's fault" posts.

It wasn't the home run, it was the 5 pitches before that.

There is surely no way you can justify trading away Jason Marquis for a guy you release 2 weeks into the season, effectively trading away Marquis just so Smardigasnfeifaz can pitch up here for a week and like last year, gets beat around.

Trading away a extremely valuable piece in Derosa when you have 1 position when the player misses some time annually and were going after another who books his trips to the DL months in advance

Derosa played 402 innings at 3rd base with the cubs

Derosa played 597 innings in the outfield with the cubs

Letting a good closer go for a average closer at best thus leaving only 1 great guy in the pen that will get overused.

And Heilman? What did Hendry think he got Dave Duncan from the Cards as well and magically Heilmans 5+ era would drop?

First of all, it wasn't the home run that pissed me off. It was the fact that he walked a guy on 4 pitches to lead off an inning in a one run game... with 2 red hot power hitters on deck. And like I said, Heilman has been pretty crappy all season. Also, Olson is a decent pitching prospect. Hendry made a good trade by getting him for Pie, then ruined it by throwing him away. Lefties who can miss bats always have some value.

And I don't really get the "we're a few games over .500, what are you talking about? stuff. I'm talking about the offseason moves, not the overall team. The reason we're over .500 has absolutely nothing to do with Hendry's offseason moves. It's in spite of them.

So excuse me for venting frustrations after we had an offseason where every move seemed terrible....and then a month into the season..... big surprise.... they're terrible.

If this team misses the playoffs, it's time for Hendry and Lou to go, period. It's clear that this mix is not winning a championship.

agreed let's get Hire Paul Depodesta (without logan white) or Ned Colletti and get Sandberg to manage. I guarantee that will bring a winning mix

Yes, Derrek and Soto have carried our offense and the starting pitching has been excellent including Ryan Dempster.

What the hell is this supposed to mean?

Are you even reading this stuff or are you just detemrined to use that rolling eyes smiley? I'm talking aobut his offseason moves, which have been garbage. I don't really see what Lee and Soto have to do with anything. I never blamed hendry for either of them. I blame Hendry for our bullpen, Bradley, DeRosa, Dempster, Miles, Wuertz, Gaudin... although some of those are TBD.

Oh and as for Dempster, wasn't hendry the one who gave him a huge contract this offseason? Thanks for adding to my point.

If you'd like to actually address the reason for this thread, which is the offseason moves, then go ahead.

Yet another terrible day for Dempster, Heilman, and Patton.

Only 4 years left on Dempster's contract!

Dempster went 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 9/3 K/BB in over 110 pitches. Good outing before he got overextended, much like Marshall's last start.

Dempster actually pitched a good game until Lou inexplicably left him out there in the 7th.

The problem is there are 4 guys in the pen who you cant trus period. Guz is OK at times. You dont want to over work Marmol and Gregg, so you have to put in someone. I have a feeling that Ascanio and Stevens will be joining us tomorrow in place of Fox and Patton, and Heilman is 1 bad outting away from being buried at the end of the pen. If Wells looks sharp in his next 2 starts, he could be a good option as a long man. Cotts is awful vs. righties and lefties, so theres no point keeping him just because Lou wants a lefty in the pen.

I realize that injuries have played a large part, but it is really hard to justify a team with this high of a payroll having so many holes. Unfortunately the impact of Hendry's offseason moves will be felt well past the end of this season, and at some point the Cubs aren't going to be able to spend themselves out of their bad signings.

Hendry is going to be immediately fired once the new owner becomes official. His offseason was on of the worst in recent history. WTF was he thinking?

He's not going to be fired....he just got an extension and is well respected within the Cubs organization. And the team's injuries will be more than enough of an excuse to keep him employed.

We shall see once the sale is complete.

You think the first thing the ownership is going to do once it takes over is fire the GM that led the Cubs to the playoffs the last 2 years and pay 2 GMs money?

that's on lou. wuertz was a pretty solid reliever and lou hated him. hendry basically had to give him away away because lou wasn't going to use him.

i still have some faith in heilman because he was good from 2006-08, plus we gave up cedeno (who's still terrible) and garrett olsen, who probably wil never reach his ceiling as a #5 starter.

someone has to get the walks down though. the whole staff is walking too many guys and it's killing them; the bullpen has been especially bad.

hendry hired lou, anything hendry does because lou makes him do it is still on hendry.
