florida is the correct answer to the question "who are this year's Rays?"

mostly because of improvements made to fielding and bullpen

and by playing half their games against the Nationals

i feel confident in saying that if the marlins play half their games against the nationals for the rest of the season, they will win the NL east.

Haha. The Little League team that Elijah Dukes was working with that made him late to the game is now going to pay Duke's $500 team fine.

When you're team has played even worse than the record shows in the standings, it's probably not a good idea to drum up this kind of news coverage.

If I was Angelos, and I'm glad I'm not, I'd give that Little League team a couple thousand dollars worth of equipment along with some nice seats on the Orioles 3b line.

The Little League that Dukes was speaking to is set to pay the $500 fine...

Washington Nationals outfielder Elijah Dukes was fined $500 and benched for being late to Saturday's home game against Florida.

But he won't pay the fine himself. The Great Falls Little League, where he was speaking prior to the game, says it will pay it for him after a fundraising effort, according to the Washington Post.

"The point is, this guy gave back to our community, and now he's in a hard spot. We need to help him," said Jim Mraz, the Great Falls LL president, according to the Post. "It's not a question of whether this guy can afford the 500 bucks. We're just trying to send a message to our kids: He was here for us. Now we've got to be there for him."

Good for the little league team. Like they say, everyone knows Dukes could afford it, but it's kind of cool that the LL team is stepping up like this.

Apparently they also sent Wilfredo Ledezma on the field last week with an upside down "N":

And all this great stuff in this thread is completely ignoring that they had to send Lastings Milledge back to AAA because they signed or traded for way too many outfielders.

They had Milledge, Kearns, Dukes and Wily Mo.

So what do they do? Trade for Willingham and sign Adam Dunn. Oh, and they signed Willie Harris to a brand new contract. They should probably try some of these guys on the mound. Last time I looked a team needed way more pitchers than outfielders.

I think it's just obvious that they are hilariously inept at actual baseball. It's this side crap that they get wrong that really is like the icing on the cake. And who doesn't like icing? :)

A light coating of icing is okay. Globular icing is going in the garbage along with the paper plate and spork.

Apparently the little league team payed Dukes 500 dollars to show up, so he wasn't really doing charity work. I'm fine with this if either Dukes has to pay the fine and the Nationals give it right back to the little league team, or pay their way for them to see a game.
