Another Cards fan here...I was surprised by Soto but not mad. Ludwick was a second round draft pick who just had bad luck with injuries. Very talented player.

There are a lot of 1st, 2nd, 3rd round picks that either flame out or have bad luck with injuries. They then because non-prospects. And then the rare 1% that make a comeback and start to rake are irritating for rivals of the teams they play on. I think it's just irritating because in the mid 2000's, the Cards were blessed with a middle of the order with Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen, Walker, etc. Then Edmonds declined and moved on, Rolen got hurt and moved on, and all the sudden it looked like the Cardinals had Pujols and a bunch of scrubs. And better yet, other than Rasmus they didn't seem to have anything in the minors to help them and their management wasn't opening up their pocketbooks to sign players. So Cubs fans breathe a sigh of relief.....and then watch as Ryan Ludwick comes out of nowhere and gives them another Pujols.

Would you be pissed if Hoffpauir hit 37 home runs this year?

Because that would be the same situation as Ludwick.

Not really.

Agree. I'm a Cards fan, and I like Soto a lot. He plays the game right, and he's an exciting young player.

I even bought my Cub fan Dad an authentic Soto jersey for Xmas.

Another Cards fan here. We are not irked by Fontenot and Theriot. But I doubt any Cubs fan is seriously irked by our no-named infielders.

I wouldn't be irked either, except we can't seem to get Brian freaking Barden out!

Stop talking!!!! God. 2004 Zambrano plz come home.

Arizona couldn't either. He's having a great road trip.

Barden again. Like I said, he's having a great road trip.

Good for him

No not mad but Ludwick was a second round pick with a lot of promise. I do not believe Hoffpauir was drafted in the first 10 rounds. All this points out is he was highly rearded and not some undrafted player...Barden was highly touted before he had the hernia issues as well. The Cards have been good about looking at players that others have neglegted to care about. Ludwick had a great year in the minors before the Cards got him.

LOL. Meph gets banned for 2 weeks for being a dick, and now he's back and is....being a dick.

He's not a fan of baseball. He's a fan of lecturing and arguing about baseball. It's a weird ego thing.

We're not talking about the potential some player had in 1998. We're talking about how said player was regarded the year they came up to the bigs and got their first real shot at playing everyday. Ludwich wasn't among the top 11 prospects in the Cards organization coming into 2008, thus he wasn't a high regarded prospect. Show me where someone projected a 1.000+ OPS for Ludwick anywhere. Even on the day he was drafted. It doesn't exist because he wasn't expected to do it.

He was probably just as likely as Hoffpauir to randomly explode and hit 37 HRs

Talking about likelihood is useful before something happens. Afterward it is irrelevant. It happened. Now you know that everyone who said it wouldn't happen was wrong. Comparing him to Hoffpauir is something you could have done back when you knew less about him.
