Here's another dumb trade idea: Lee to the White Sox for Contreras. Lee has been struggling and Contreras has been relegated to the pen.

Actually Contreras has been sent to the minors. That happened a few days ago.

And the reason for that is that hes been horrible since 2005, so we really dont want him no matter what.

Agreed. I'd love for the Sox to call him back up in time to start against the Cubs in interleague play.

Reed Johnson to Phillies for Jack Taschner. Reed Johnson is made somewhat obsolete with the aquisition of Ryan Freel. The Phillies have 3 leftys in the pen in Taschner, Eyre, and JA Happ. Meanwhile, the closest thing to a 4th outfielder they have is the less than mobile Matt Stairs.

This way, we can DFA Cotts, keep Marshall in the rotation and move Wells to the pen and get rid of Patton or at least trade for his rights and call up Jake Fox. If Fox plays a solid 3rd, great. If not, between him, Font, Freel, and Scales we have it held down until we figure out if Ramirez will be back by July/August or if we need to trade for something else.

How do you figure?

Freel has played 183 career games in the corner outfield and has a UZR of -.7 in LF and 15.1 in RF. He also has a career .729 OPS against lefties.

Reed has a career .834 OPS against lefties and a UZR of 42.4 in LF and -8.2 in RF.

Freel won't come near replacing the bat vs lefties that Reed provides us. That said, I wouldn't be utterly opposed to trading Reed in the right deal, but not because we now have Freel.

Seeing as the Peavy thread got locked (again) I'll post this here.

The really great thing about the low level minor leaguers doing well is that it makes the likelihood of a Cubs trade for Peavy. They can give up any one (or two) of Marshall, Ascanio, or Wells in addition to Vitters and whatever else lower level prospect the Padres want.

If I'm Ricketts I start talks as soon as possible. The quicker the Cubs can get him the better because there are plenty of teams who can offer better.

They can even throw in Kevin Gregg, lol.

I found this from Goat Riders of the Apocolypse via MLBTR. Id deinitely belongs in this thread

White Sox send San Diego their previous package, including Poreda, Broadway, and Richard

Cubs send White Sox Zambrano

Padres send Cubs Peavy

Can you imagine Ozzie and Zambrano together? It might be worth it for the comedic value alone.

i would be up for a straight trade of Z to the White Sox, that trade is silly because if they are going to give up that package they would want peavy not Z

Peavy turned down a trade to the White Sox, so them acquiring him is not an option. I also wouldn't trade Z for that package.

One big problem with the trade as the Goat Riders listed it, though, is that Lance Broadway is no longer in Chicago. He was dealt to the Mets a week or so ago.
