Didn't he turn out a 10 mil contract earlier? 4.5 mil is a hard pill to swallow.

How does the Yankees rotation look now?

Sabathia, Wang, Burnett, Pettite, and Hughes?

Sucks for Joba. Overrated, but still pretty darned good.

I don't understand the mystique surrounding Andy Pettite, he's an absolutely terrible decision for the Yankees. If I were a Yankees fan and this signing moves Joba to the bullpen I'd be livid.

I don't think this move puts Joba in the Pen, the only way he is going there is if he can't stay healthy in the rotation. Hughes will probably get bumped to the bullpen to be their swingman or start in AAA until someone gets hurt. It also allows them to use Kennedy/Hughes as trade bait if they need to fill a hole during the season, 1 of those two along with some combination of Cabrera/Swisher/Nady/Jackson/Brackman/Jackson could probably get them just about anything they needed at the trade deadline.

He can make 12 mil if he meets his incentives below:

After months of stalled negotiations, Pettitte and the Yankees agreed Monday to a $5.5 million, one-year contract. While the guaranteed money is less than half New York's original $10 million offer, he can make an additional $6.5 million in bonuses: $4.5 million based on innings and $2 million based on days on the active roster. He would earn the entire amount if he pitches 210 innings and doesn't go on the disabled list.
