Sean Marshall will join the rotation and also get about 25 starts, Piniella said, while Jeff Samardzija, Chad Gaudin and rookie Mitch Atkins will get opportunities to start this spring. Piniella also declined to anoint Carlos Marmol as his closer over newcomer Kevin Gregg, despite Marmol's dominance as the set-up man.

Good. Keep declining to do that. Just once I'd love to see the Cubs do the smart thing and have Gregg close while Marmol stays in his more valuable role.

Also glad Marshall will start. Hope Samardzija earns his way in there too.

I'd like to say good too on the Marmol part...but I'm sure he's doing it for the wrong reasons so I won't share the sentiment. Once Gregg sucks (and he will, IMO), and Marmol dominates again, that arrangement will change.

Well it's better to have an experienced guy who's started before in the rotation. I'd love to see Shark be our #5 come next year.

Unless we get another certain pitcher I will not name. Cough cough.

I know Gregg isn't perfect, but give the guy a break. Last year he held batters to a .580 OPS and a .624 OPS the year before. He'll have some faults, but at least give the guy a chance.
