What's the deal. Have we decided not to keep him around?

Baseball is probably the last thing on Henry's mind right now.

Understandable, obviously, but that just happened recently.

In other words, we're probably not going to hear anything on that front for awhile. I haven't heard Hendry connected to any other catchers, so either he's planning on bringing Koyie up, or he's going to talk to Henry when it's more appropriate. I'd be rather surprised if he went out and signed some other FA. I think Henry is going to retire with the Cubs and move into coaching. When is the magic question.

Doesn't sound like it, unless Blanco wants to come back at a much cheaper price. The Cubs declined Blanco option, and it seems like they might be going cheap with the back up catcher to save money. The potential saved from going with Gregg over Wood and not bringing Blanco back will be the money we probably use to add a RF.

I think its one of those things where Henry is either going to resign with the Cubs or retire. So I don't think Hank or the Cubs were really making his status a huge priority at the moment. And then the events of this week happened so its even less of a priority.

The Cubs didn't offer him arbitration. The new CBA took away the deadline afterwards where the Cubs could still sign him didn't it? Given that he can make no less than 85% of his previous salary through arby, I guess the Cubs want him very cheap if at all. Just seems that it's taking longer than I expected.

If Hank wants a job, he'll get one. hes still one of the best backup catchers in the game offensively, and defensively hes one of the best period. However, the way the Cubs financial situation is in limbo, Im thinking Koyie Hill or another cheaper option could be the way to go.

I seem to recall reading or hearing something about the Cubs offering Blanco a job as their minor league catching coach?

Was this someone's suggestion or was this actually in the papers a while back? Or am I just imagining things again?

Hendry will probably give him a $1 million raise for sympathy because it's the right thing to do.

The Cubs haven't rule out bringing Blanco back. Right now, Koyie Hill has the inside track as the backup. He also helped Soto quite a bit, at Iowa in '07. They'll bring in some veteran guys as non-roster men to camp. I think Mark Johnson will be there. Hey, how 'bout Bako?

You're thinking of Crash Davis.

No, there's been numerous reports that the Cubs think Henry has a future as a coach/mgr in the organization. He'd start in the minors, of course...

I'd like for them to see if Maddux is interested in coaching now that he's officially hanging it up.

I would think he eventually will be. He may want to take a few years to just relax though.
