MLBTR mentions that the Cubs "will have to offer more than Marquis for DeJesus", with the original source being an article by BPro's John Perrotto. Link:

While both these sources are right up there with the absolute most ridiculous and hilarious of internet trade discussions, I still found it interesting as I hadn't at all entertained the prospect of the ROYALS wanting Marquis. Apparently they may? Perhaps there would be a few mill coming from the Cubs, but anyway lets get this done- who else could we put in this deal? At first I thought maybe I'd do Fontenot but then realized that would be too much on our part, personally I'd send them Theriot (they need 2B) but that may just be personal hatred on my part.

Someone on MLBTR mentioned Marquis+Wells. They'd maybe have some interest in Wells, although I can't imagine his value would be more than a throw-in. I could see Wuertz being useful for KC, and as someone who Lou seems to hate we might as well just get rid of him for some sort of value...sucks having to work around your manager's idiocy but I think this should be a key part of our offseason strategy.

Anyhow- Thoughts? Is this just a stupid MLBTR rumor with 0 chance of happening?

I wouldn't be surprised if the Royals want Marquis, adding a proven big league starter to the bottom of their rotation could help them. Remember the Royals gave Brett Tomko a 1y-3m deal a year ago, for a simliar reason. So taking Marquis at 1y,6m(after the Cubs eat some salary), doesn't seem that unrealistic. But I don't see the Cubs getting much in return, let alone DeJesus.

Don't forget this is a KC team that has already picked up two other medicore but expensive players in Crisp and Jacobs (in Jacobs, soon to be expensive). So picking up Marquis fits into their ideology this offseason. And I agree I think the Cubs would to throw in a good upside player with Marquis if they want DeJesus.

DeJesus would be a good 2 hitter, perhaps a 6 or 7, but hes not the kind of hitter thats going to be a huge difference to us. If he just costs us Marquis plus a decent prospect, sure go ahead, but its not something thats going to get me psyched.

When I read this on MLBTR I felt the same way. I would love to get DeJesus, especially if it only costs us a salary dump (Marquis) and someone else minor. I believe Wells had surgery at the end of the season (he was at least very hurt), so I'm not sure what his trade value will look like before he shows he's ready during spring training.

If Milton Bradley ends up wanting to sign with us, then we could always consider offering DeJesus to the Padres while trying to put together a package for Peavy. They want pitching, but it's hard to imagine that DeJesus doesn't have some value to a rebuilding team.

I imagine we will start seeing some of these trades/signings happen later this week once the ownership issue is settled. I hope we don't have to wait until the end of the Winter meetings.

Bids are due, but I don't necessarily think that means the ownership issue will be "settled."

I think I read somewhere that the new ownership is expected to give Hendry a budget number as soon as Monday. Apparently, that is all that is keeping him from pulling the trigger on the Peavy deal (and any deals that set that one up).

I don't think that's possible, because there won't be new ownership by Monday. There isn't new ownership until the Trib decides what bid to accept and the new ownership is approved by the owners.
