I know I'll get mercilously attacked for even suggesting this, but if we did move Lee somehow, would Jason Giambi be a respectable replacement? The Yanks declined his option and arent expected to try and bring him back.

Can he still play a productive first base, or is he better off DHing somewhere? he has a .247/.373/.502 line with 32 HRs. The average is dismal, but the rest of the numbers are pretty solid.

We don't need a DH playing 1B.

I think Giambi is still a very good hitter, but he's lousy in the field and I think he'll play fewer and fewer games from here on out.

Why get older at 1B? Getting Giambi to replace Lee makes no sense to me.

GIDP...

Giambi - 6

Lee - 27

Winner winner, chicken dinner.

Clearly Giambi is the superior first baseman

Giambi-.247/.373/.502/.875 32 hr

Lee-.291/.361/.462/.823 20 hr

As I stated, Im not sure how much of a defensive liability Giambi is, but the offensive numbers are a significant upgrade.

In all seriousness, Giambi benefited form the left handed advantage of hitting at Yankee Stadium. He had equal HR output home vs. away, but had an OPS 102 points higher at home than on the road (.929 vs. 827).

Here's his scatter plot from Hit Tracker. Clearly he's a pull hitter so he took advantage of the short Yankee stadium RF...

I thought this would be a sign him for a good backup/bat off the bench thread. Suggesting getting him for starting purposes is ignorant. It takes 5 minutes to read up on how bad he is in the field.

Even taking defense into consideration, Giambi was 2.5 wins better than DLee last year (according to Chris Dial's system).

If the Cubs needed to get rid of DLee to make other things work, Giambi wouldn't be a bad idea at all at something around 2 years 10M per.

This sounds awful. Giambi seems like a surefire bet to fall off a cliff baseball-wise and health-wise.

To his credit hes been healthy except for the stomach tumor thing in 2004 and jacked up foot in 2007, both pretty freak ways to miss a lot of time. He is a gigantic guy whos going to be 38 so there is a concernm, but hey look at Bonds.

How many of those wouldn't be HRs in Wrigley? Doesn't that say that all but very few of his HRs down the line were over 350'?
