Bold prediction: The Raiders will find a way to lose on Sunday.

I would not be suprised if Al Davis fired Kiffen on Monday because he thought they lost over the weekend.

it looks like the refs are going to come down harder on helmet-first hits after boldin's injury last sunday.

in related news, bob sanders (the player, not poster) is set to announce his retirement.

Wait really....I know hes injury prone, but isn't he reasonably young still?

Al Davis is so out of it that that is very possible....And the Bye week is a pretty tough opponent I wouldn't be surprised

word is, he just doesn't think he can go on without the helmet collision, being as that is the only kind of tackle he knows how to make.

I just now saw where they attempted a 76 yd. field goal this week. Awesome!

The Titans have a chance to prove this week that they are the best team in the AFC. A sound beating to the Ravens should be enough to ensure Tennessee's stature over the Bills and put the Titans into the driver's seat of a playoff bid.

Nothing I saw from the Ravens last night made me fear them against the Titans, as Flacco looked good but not great and the running game isn't exactly awe-inspiring. The Titans, who weren't awesome Sunday either, have looked as good as could be expected to this point and even had Trent Dilfer (Baltimore's Super Bowl QB) comparing them to the 2000 Raven defense (perhaps the best of all time). Plenty of grains of salt on that one, but I found it interesting.

All that said, the Titan D has a good, but not great, day against the Ravens and the offense is above average - leading to a 27-14 Tennessee win to go 5-0.

Kiffin didn't make it that far, apparently. ESPN is reporting that Al Davis has finally made the move - Lane Kiffin has been fired.

Now the only question is one that Soul just asked and I have no idea on, who will take that job now?

The story does say that offensive line coach Tom Cable is currently the leading candidate, while Greg Knapp and Paul Hackett are also possibilites.

The inevitable became reality Tuesday when Lane Kiffin was fired by Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis without pay via the telephone, according to team sources.

:rotfl: I fully understand why soccer hates Al Davis.

Tim Kawakami said last week that Kiffin hadn't been fired by then because Al Davis normally sleeps in and didn't get into the Raiders office in time to fire him.

Of course Al Davis is not going to pay Lane Kiffin, that's one of the reasons they were stringing him along and hoping he'd quit. They don't want to deal with Mike Shanahan part two (though they really don't care, Al Davis assumes he has the best lawyers anyways).

What a mess.

Davis needs to turn over operations to someone who can actually run the team effectively. He's really just not able to do it anymore. Time to pass it down Al. I can't imagine anyone wanting to work for him at this point. He's become a joke.

Greg Knapp is a terrible coach.

Wasn't Kiffin doing a fairly good job with that team?

This is meaningless to Al Davis. Are you under some strange impression that Al Davis uses logic?

Come on Vanilla Ice, I expected more out of you than this.

I don't know. He was given a year with a horrible insane mess to clean up, then Davis started going public with his dislike of him.

Sure sounds to me like the boss didn't give his employee much of a chance to succeed.

I would absolutely love Lane Kiffin on the Panthers' coaching staff in some capacity.

Anyway, Carolina should beat K.C., especially if they play as they did last week. The Chiefs have a very good running game, but so do Minnesota and Atlanta, and Carolina did a good job against both of those rushing attacks. This is a possible trap game, though, coming in between divisional games, especially with the trip to Tampa looming next week. Tampa plays Denver, so here's hoping good Jay Cutler returns for that one.

The ESPN article said the two started having disagreements on whether to fire DC Rob Ryan after the 07 season. Kiffin wanted him gone, but Davis didn't.

Davis, from what I heard, also wasn't happy that Kiffin didn't throw the ball downfield more often.

I knew that he wasn't going to be given a chance and Davis would do whatever he wanted (usually the wrong thing). But, I was curious as to whether he was a good coach.

From what I can tell he is. Al Davis basically wants a yes-man who will do exactly what he wants. Lane Kiffin isn't this type of man, so he go the boot.

For the talent he had in Oakland, though, I thought Kiffin did a good job. I'm sure soccer10k can expound on the point more, but I would like to see Kiffin get another NFL shot. I think he'd have success.

That was definitely a big thing. Davis likes Rob Ryan and Kiffin doesn't. Hmm, I wonder who is going to win that battle? Maybe 25% (at the most) of this was due to Kiffin having a 5-15 record as coach.

Oh well, at least all of this crap is finally over.

Kiffin absolutely deserves another head coaching gig. Like you said, with the (lack of) talent Kiffin had, he did a fine job.

I mean, last year he was stuck with Culpepper and Josh McCown at QB along with a rookie who missed training camp in Russell. Not to mention that their receivers were Jerry Porter and Ronald Curry. This year it's Javon Walker, Curry, Ashlie Lelie (who was cut by the 49ers during training camp) and Johnnie Lee Higgins. That's to go along with a rookie quarterback.

None of this was Kiffin's fault and there's no way any other owner in football fires him at this point.

I really hate Al Davis.
