I just want to know if Z has regressed as a pitcher since 2004-2006 when he was clearly at his peak. People saw the numbers he put up those years, and when they see him have entire months with 8+ ERAs, and see him go into August with an ERA in the 2.80 range and then implode, they try to come up with reasons for his slump. A key reason would be an injury that has shelved him two separate times this year, both times he was noticed to have dropped his arm angle. Now he could just be dropping it on his own for whatever reason, but its a pretty decent explanation that he is hurting and dropping the arm to avoid the pain while still throwing 90+

So you think that Z's inconsistent performance is because he's just not a good pitcher? Does any other pitcher appear more visibly rattled than Z when things aren't going well?

Anyone else have pictures of Ted Lilly dancing in their heads?

Seriously?

Outside of that one HR in the playoffs, Ted Lilly shows less emotion (on and off the field) than any other player in history. If you're lucky you'll get a 1 second grimace, but I think that's more him stretching his face muscles.

So I'm not sure if you were joking or not.

I've seen him hop up in the air in a few of his HRs given up this year.

Ted Lilly certainly has shown emotion on the mound outside of throwing the glove.

Of course he has... everyone has. But he has the most ridiculous poker face.

I guess maybe Rich Hill has shown less.

Or maybe Harden with that constant goofy smile regardless of what is going on.

Just to highlight how Z has regressed post ASB:

         HR/9 K/9 BB/9
Pre-ASB .67 5.85 2.85
Post-ASB 1.31 6.87 4.48

Just to highlight on an arbitrary stat, he's two quality starts in nine throughout the months of August and September.

It's clear Z's struggles aren't just the result of a bad start or two or three, he's clearly not the pitcher he was the first half of the season.
