I want to clinch with a win. If we sweep the Brewers we can do that, but if we lose one, that might not happen. We play the Cards on Friday afternoon, while the Brewers play that night, so we could clinch after they lose that night. I picked that we'd clinch Saturday after we beat the Cards.

We'll take 2/3 from Milwaukee making our magic number 2

We'll win Friday, but the Brewers will as well.

Then we'll win Saturday for a wild celebration.

The only thing about that is the Cubs/Cards and Brewers/Reds play at the same time on Saturday. Unless the other game ends first, the Cubs won't know that they clinched (in that scenario) when the game ends.

I'd prefer to clinch when the game is on TV, so I can DVR it. I'd also prefer to clinch by a Cubs win not a Brewers/Astros loss. In a perfect world, it would happen on Sunday. Either the magic # is 1 by then or it's 2 and the Brewers lose in during the 7th inning stretch and it is announced over the speakers. Then Wood closes the game and a big celebration ensues followed by WGN coverage of the lockerroom champagne coverage!

I really dont think we sweep, 2-3 or 1-3. While I am not scared of the Brewers for our purposes, I have a feeling that they may go on a nice little run and make that Wild Card race a tough one for the Phillies. The Brewers are incredibly streaky. Just when you think they've collapsed, they go on a hot streak. Just when you think they're unbeatable, they collapse again. repeat process.

I do wish we were playing the Brewers about a week ago. Their hitters are due to break out of their slump in a big way. Hopefully it can wait 3 games.

Yeah, that's what sucked about last year - the Cubs having to wait for the Brewers to lose their game to officially clinch the division. The most important thing to me is having a Cubs win clinch the division so we can get an on-field/locker room celebration. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to have the Cubs do it at home and ASAP, but #1 is being able to celebrate immediately after the game.

If we took 2/3 from Milwaukee, our magic number would be 2. If we win Friday and so did Milwaukee, our magic number would be 1. If we won Saturday, it wouldn't matter what Milwaukee did, we'd clinch, right?

I can just hear Joe Buck's call:

"... and the Cards lose to a team in the Cardinals division who then clinches the NL Central. It a sad day for the best baseball fans in the world."

Replace Phillies with Mets, who are also faltering as they approach the finish line. The Phillies are a half game ahead of them now and looking like they're going to stretch that lead a bit before they let up.

More like "And the Cardinals lose. This will drop them to 5 and a half games behind the Wild Card leading Mets. The Cubs are celebrating wildly on the field at the expense of the Cardinals. This is unprofessional any way you look at it. Just a DISGUSTING display of unsportsmanship at Wrigley Field today."
