A small, secret fear of mine is the Cubs will see the result of this one (thinking Mets win), and will look at it as "well, we can mail it in tonight... can't lose ground, magic number still went down 1, still 30 over, etc etc".

I will never get tired of the Brewers losing, but this little losing streak must end tonight... need a little mo to go onto the road trip starting on Friday in Cincy.

I agree. But I'm hoping it goes the other way, i.e., pressure if off, just go out and play. And win.

Yeah, I doubt the Cubs are going to "mail it in" during a 4 game losing streak (whatever that means).

"... can't lose ground, magic number still went down 1, still 30 over, etc etc.".

It means the Cubs could go into the game thinking "If we win, great. If not, nothing hurts.". Instead of going in thinking "Ok, Brewers got swept. Time to end this losing streak, and really ratchet it up & work on killing Milwaukee's hopes for winning the division. Win tonight to get the lead back to 5.5 games and then get back to work on that much-improved road record after a day off."

Again, I don't think athletes go into an actual meaningful (non-exhibition) game with an "if we win, great...it not, nothing hurts" attitude. What you're implying is that the Cubs didn't care yesterday (and every time they lose). Do you really think that?

I hope the Cubs come out and win 18-0 tonight, but I'm just saying that thought might be in the back of some minds if Demps isn't at his best tonight and surrenders some early runs & the Cubs offense doesn't produce up to its averages for a large part of the game.

Dempster has given up exactly 1 run in the first 3 innings of his last 5 starts put together. That 18-0 thing works for me.

Now 3-2 D'backs.

Also, is it me, or does Motte balk twice when he works out of the stretch? It looks like he comes to a brief stop twice in his motion, but I might be seeing things.

600 people showed up to watch the Marlins and Braves play today. 600. Seriously, move that team somewhere where fans will actually show up. 600 people at a game is flat out embarrassing.

They should move them to Oklahoma City and call them the Thunder
