I want to win the division. I don't subscribe to the theory that we should go to New York rather than face Arizona's big three.

The first tie-breaker for the division is head to head. We lead the Brewers 6-4 with six left. The next tie-breaker is divisional record. Milwaukee actually leads us by half a game there. And if they were to catch us, almost by definition that would have had to improve that advantage. So if we want to win the division tie we need to at least split the six with the Brewers. Of course if we split they are very unlikely to catch us.

I think I am beginning to panic.

I know I share the sentiments of many other posters here, so let me lay this out.

The Cubs have a 99.5% chance to make the playoffs. Once October gets here, the season is new again. The Cubs HAVE THE BEST TEAM IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE!!

For one, I am happy they're getting this rotten streak out of the way now and are giving our starting pitchers time off so they can dominate in October.

This whole panic BS because of our SECOND 4 game losing streak of the whole season is quite pathetic.

I frankly don't care what BP has as the playoff odds. This losing streak becomes seven, or nine out of ten and that figure will be 60%.

The Cubs and Brewers both control their own destiny. The Cubs lead by 4 in loss column, Milwaukee has a much easier schedule. I think a Cub fan has the right to start panicking. I'm not there yet, but I am mapping it out.

They are what 9 up in the Wild Card if it were to come to that? Don't see any reason to be worried.

So you're saying if we lose 5 out of our next 6 we'll still be more likely than not to make the playoffs(and your #s are wayyyyy too low on that. We'd be at worst 4 games up on a playoff spot with ~20 to go.)

I mean, do people really think that this team all of a sudden is terrible? Remember 4 games ago?

Not terrible, but couldn't we have a thirty game run, against tough competition, where we go 10-20? I guess I just want the Division and not the Wild Card.

Every other team in the NL is more likely to go on a 10-20 run than we are right now. You're basically fretting over Chaos Theory.

Granted wed prefer the division, but why cant we just clinch a PO spot, enjoy that, and then worry about the division.

The playoff spot has been clinched for a while.

They can't possibly lose six pennant-clinching games in a row.

Good thing 1984 and 2003's inferior teams don't effect this year's standings.

The Cubs are 85-55 and have 22 games left. If the Cubs go 8-14/7-15 (roughly your win one-of-three scenario), the Phillies would have to go 17-5/16-6 to tie the Cubs. The Cardinals would have to go 18-4/17-5 and the Astros would have to go 19-3/18-4.
