So we go home to DBR with no Volquez, and more importantly, no Dunn or Griffey. One of those no excuse not to sweep series'.

Seems like we are having this conversation a lot lately, whether it's okay to expect a series sweep.

I expect the Cubs to go 5-1 against CIN and WSH.

Its okay to expect anything you want. Hell, I can expect to win the lottery if I want, doesnt mean its going to happen. With that in mind, Im expecting to sweep the Reds or Nats. Im not guaranteeing anything, just expecting it.

Here is how Cubs playoff teams have fared after 124 games in their respective seasons:

2008 - 76-48 1st 5.0 GA (4.5 or 5.5 depending on the Brewers game)

1989 - 71-53 1st 2.5 GA

1998 - 68-56 2nd 8.0 GB

2003 - 64-60 3rd 1.5 GB

 at the fan with the sign

I flipped away for just a sec. What did it say?

The good old "COMPLETELY USELESS BY SEPTEMBER" with "completely" spelled incorrectly.

Haha, I was at the game last night and saw that guy during the game and then again after as he was yelling at Cubs fans coming out of the stadium. I called him out on him "completly" spelling and he just mumbled something about a goat and then started running his mouth again. Of course, he was all alone.

Oh, and I hate to generalize, but the Marlins have to have to trashiest fanbase in all of baseball. 90% of the Marlins fans that were there were dirty looking hoodrats who were more interested in starting junk than watching the game. Also, the stadium seriously smells like ass. I didn't go to the day game today so I can only imagine how bad it smelled with all the sweating that was going on.

Yeah, the Cubs have their best record after 124 games since...a season that magically ended on August 15.

EDIT: And, even in 1945, they were only 77-47 at this point in the season.

EDIT: Might as well show all the playoff years:

1945: 77-47 1st 1.5 GA

1938: 68-56 3rd 7.0 GB (they finished 21-6 to win the division)

1935: 75-49 3rd 2.5 GB

1932: 73-51 1st 8.0 GA

1929: 83-41 1st 11.5 GA (yeah, here's where it starts getting ridiculous)

1918: 82-42 1st 11.5 GA (they only played 5 games after this in the season to finish 84-45 on the year)

1910: 85-39 1st 10.5 GA

1908: 75-49 3rd 2.0 GB (that's right, they're ahead of the 1908 WS winner pace)

1907: 89-35 1st 16.0 GA (they certainly coasted in this season...they only lost 45 games on the year)

1906: 93-31 1st 13.0 GA (and they lost the World Series...)
