08-09' Blackhawks (46-24-12) 104 PTS - 4th Seed In The West!

That was a beautiful performance. Stamkos and Ramo made it far closer than it should've been, but the Hawks absolutely dominated.

I'm going to get attacked every time I point this out now, but Huet was a sieve when he was challenged. He wasn't strong on the first goal, and the shot from outside he was too far back into the net. If he came out at all there would've been no angle.

Keep scoring 5 goals and it won't matter though.

What the hell's going on out there?

Kerry ROYmo, as cyno would say. I hate games like this. The hawks are thoroughly dominating but are probably going to lose because of a penalty and a fluke performance from a garbage tender

ROYmo which is what I ACTUALLY put in my game notes was the difference from 5-3 game to a 9-3 game.

Nope just be fair and actually criticize Khabi when he has a bad game as well, considering it's about as often as Huet. When Khabi has a bad night it's just an aberration, but when Huet has a bad night it's just him being awful and being exposed.

I don't know enough to criticize but it seems to me like Huet went down to his knees really early in the shot on the third goal. Seems like it would be easy to roof it over his head that way. Am I wrong on this? And if I am is this something he normally does?

Hey [expletive]... Huet won... he let in 2 soft goals and adjusted after that.

Hawks honestly could have won 9-1, 9-3, 8-4, whatever... the Hawks dominated a bad team with depleted defense... lets focus on that rather than focusing on criticizing the winning goalie who played 40 minutes of shut out hockey.

And all of you know, I am NOT a Huet apologist, just a Blackhawks fan.

I'm not meaning to criticize Huet. He got the win. I'm just trying to understand the finer points of the game.

That is generally one of his problems. Compare early in the game how Ramo came out and challenged the shooter, and how Huet was sitting back on the goal Stamkos scored from farther out. You can go to your knees if you're out far enough to take away the angles. The shooter simply shouldn't score on the short side (stick side) from that distance. You're still susceptible to the roofer, but not many guys can pull off that shot. You say Kane do it last night.

Great win. Going to be traveling tomorrow night and will miss the game. Bummer, should be a good one with the way Florida has been playing.

I must also correct myself, Huet did not play 40 minutes of shut out hockey... but once the Bolts had 3 goals, he didn't let any more in.

I just wrote an e-mail to Waddle and Silvy from ESPN1000 about covering the Blackhawks:

Waddle and Silvy,

Alright hear me out here because I have a proposition at the end of this e-mail.

How the hell can you not talk at all about the Blackhawks? Last year when they were fighting for the 8th seed in the playoffs I heard minimal talk, maybe two or three days, about the Blackhawks.

They are the most exciting team this city has to offer when baseball is in the off-season. I guarantee the Blackhawks out do any Chicago team that had their season start in 2008... they are currently 4th seed in the Western Conference playoff race and have a chance to over take the Red Wings for the 2nd seed. I promise you they will win at least 1 out of the first 3 games of the playoffs (already better than the Cubs) and will at least win 2 games within the whole first round (better than the Sox).

Silvy, you could talk for the whole show about the awful, atrocious, deplorable, depressing, horribad, “I'd rather watch Cricket” Chicago Bulls. Are you kidding me? They suck and will suck until Derrick Rose gets teammates around him. I know you both can talk about the Bears for an unhealthy amount of time when they were just embarrassing to watch this year...

(Let me add, I know you guys don't get the ultimate say in what you talk about, and it's decided by demographics and sizes of the fan bases)

I've got a bright idea, lets talk about the most exciting team Chicago has to offer... the Chicago Blackhawks. Fellas, we're in the midst of a run at the playoffs... we're not crawling to get to the 8th spot, we hold the 4th spot by 9 points. We need to get this city fired up about the playoffs, Chicago deserves a good hockey team and they finally have it.

(Since I know NSBB doesn't want to hear about it, I edited out my proposition... but Waddle and Silvy are huge fans of the Office so I said I would get them a personalized photo of the whole cast if they would agree to this, and that I will fulfill my end of the deal first)

You guys let me know what you think...

I know there aren't many Blackhawks fans in Chicago and your producers (Jerkin Merkin) probably don't allow much hockey talk... and I know Silvy just hates the NHL. But it would be great for the city if they know how good the 2nd youngest team in the NHL is and how good they're going to be for a long time to come, and just wrap their arms around it.

Love the show guys, keep up the good work... and I look forward to hearing from you and being the first entry in the first annual “Blackhawks Playoff Beard” contest!

All the best,

Ryan

P.S. Silvy, don't embarrass yourself please during your “Lunch With A Legend” with Denny Savard, that man REALLY is a legend ;)

The more people who e-mail or comment on the Hawks will coax them to talk more about it.

It may have only taken a year to bring back the fans, but it's going to take much longer than that to get this team some respect in the sports media in Chicago, especially talk radio.

Boers and Bernstein have a healthy distaste for hockey. Mike North tried (and I think still does on CSN), but he's clueless. I don't listen to ESPN 1000, so I can't speak for the guys over there. But judging by your post, it's not much better.

Interest will pick up when the playoffs start, but it's going to take a lot to build the type of interest that will get these radio guys to give the Hawks some air time.

The problem is listening to sports talk radio.

I follow the Chicago papers and CSN, and from what I've seen on both, the Blackhawks are getting a tremendous amount of coverage.

Yeah, especially on CSN, I agree. But they are an interested party, of course.

One follows the other though. If the print and television media keeps up the coverage the fan interest will follow, and then talk radio will follow. They know what makes people turn the station. Apparently hockey is still one of those things in Chicago.

Sports radio does not get good enough ratings to talk about hockey, not enough of their listeners give a crap about hockey. They need to talk about topics that will keep the listeners they have. When Murphy is getting the best ratings on the Score (I have heard, but have no stats to prove), you understand what kind of idiot is their main customer. I would love to hear about the Blackhawks on the Score or ESPN, but it is not going to happen.

The Afternoon Saloon (Carmen, Jurko, Harry) always talk about the Hawks... it's awesome to listen too while stuck in traffic... those guys are hilarious.

It's the morning show that doesn't talk about it. Waddle and Silvy are hilarious too... honestly, what can be the difference between morning/afternoon listeners? Both shows are on during the rush hours pretty much.

I listen to B and B on the Score for the most part. Isn't Harry a pretty big Hawks fan? That's the only reason I can see them talking about hockey. Mulley and Hanley don't (football guy and basketball guy respectively), Waddle and Silvy don't (football and basketball/baseball guys), B and B don't (both have covered many sports except hockey), Hampton and Holmes don't (football and football/baseball guys).

Most of these guys do not even have the ability to talk hockey because they don't know enough about the sport. It would be like me hosting a show and acting like I know what is best for the team, stupid idea. I love hockey, but you don't want me leading a discussion on the sport.

Have a bad feeling about this one.

Huet in goal, Hawks are 5-2 in last 7 road games as well as the Panthers are 6-1 in their last 7 home games. Voukun been in goal 17 out of the last 18 games... we MIGHT see Anderson.

I still have a bad feeling about this one and can see the Hawks losing a close one.

I didn't realize the Panthers were decent and in the playoffs if they started today. I remember rooting for them and John Vanbiesbrouck (and the rats) the year they went to the finals.

Anyways, I'm excited for this game(as I have been for most of the year). It should be tough if Florida has been playing well but it seems the Hawks play better against decent teams then they do against crappy teams.

It's official!

Who wants to go?????

I'll be there both games, Oct 2nd and 3rd.

That's awesome. Very jealous. My grandma was born there but I've never been. Wish I could say I could go this year, but it's not gonna happen.

If the Hawks fly tonight like they did Tuesday, they'll win. Otherwise, I share your concerns about this one. Will be watching a Tivo'd version when I get home tonight. Hopefully I'll be happy.
