in the interest of full disclosure, i only know what team he played for because i looked at the T206 tobacco card on my dresser

Well, the fact that Wagner played so long ago and so little film footage of him exists, makes it a bit more understandable how a smart baseball fan might not know what team he was with.

I know Babe Ruth played for the Astros and Ty Cobb was the #1 pick in the 1993 Expansion Draft, but beyond that....

Note: I'm out of town right now, so I'm not gonna be able to watch Baseball Tonight regularly. I think the last team they covered was the Twins/Senators. Did anyone see that episode?

Walter Johnson was ESPN's top pick, and Puckett was left off the list but put on top by the fans. I don't remember the other two names, but they seemed like fairly obvious choices.

Aye Carumba! I can't imagine Walter not being on top.

For the Twinkies, I would have gone

1. Big Train (400+ wins on a crappy team, with a career 2.17 ERA and 1.061 WHIP)

2. Rod Carew

3. Bert Blyleven

toss up between Puckett and Killebrew for fourth.

The Indians are up today:

1. Bob Feller (would have had 300 wins if not for WWII...he enlisted the day after Pearl Harbor and was the first MLB player to enlist)

2. Tris Speaker (top 5 CF all-time)

3. Nap Lajoie (top 5 2B all-time)

Ya, Speaker was one of those tweener players that we talked about. Although I think it is more fair to put him as an Indian since he was their player/manger for eight seasons and won the franchise's first World Series in 1920.

can't believe the fans forgot nap lajoie

He was such a bad dude that they renamed the team after him!

yeah, waner and vaughan get overlooked a lot because the pirates generally were average as a team during their careers, they played in a small media market and they were overshadowed by some of the greats during that time (ruth, gehrig, foxx, hornsby, ott, ted williams). also, forbes field severely sapped their home run numbers - while they weren't as strong as ruth and gehrig, and possessed more doubles/triples power than home runs, i suspect that they'd have increased their home run totals by a factor of 2 if they'd played in a more homer-friendly park.

i don't think alexander played long enough in a phillie uniform for me to put him on the list.

i actually would go with espn's top 3, in the same order.
