Two innings after Alfonso Soriano misjudged a ball he thought he'd hit for a homer Monday night and wound up beating out a double off the wall, he stopped by coaches Gerald Perry and Alan Trammell in the dugout before his second at-bat.

''This time I'll hit the ball over the fence and make it look better,'' he said -- two pitches before delivering his called shot off CC Sabathia.

Awesome

Haha, that's incredible.

He kind of/sort of did that in the 2001 World Series too. In that Yankees documentary on HBO about 911 and baseball or whatever, they were in a tight spot and someone said "Why don't you just tell Soriano to hit a home run" or something.

They did. He did

he should have made a big spectacle out of it. he should have stepped out of the box, dramatically wave his hands to get everyone's attention, then exaggeratively point to the left field seats.

it would have been amazing.

He should have ran to a hospital between at bats and promised to hit the homer for a sick kid.

Normally he would've, but he's cautious about re-injuring the hammy.

Then Derrek Lee gets plunked and is out for a few games after fighting. Real smart.
