I'm trying to remember the Keith Law quote - "never give up on a left-handed pitcher until he can no longer comb his hair" or something to that effect.

 

Left handers have an advantage in certain respects, but on a baseball field, 4/8 defensive positions are eliminated from the realm of possible positions. And most of the lefties that I grew up with and even know now couldn't throw a baseball straight to save their life.

A guy I work with threw a fastball in the low 80s at best and had what he called a "mediocre to poor" breaking pitch in college. But because he's a lefty, he got drafted by the Tigers and still to this day gets occasional try out offers from major league teams (he's 25).
