Jon Garland a possible target?

Hendry is likely to go in search of starting pitching before the July 31 trading deadline. Among those who could wind up on his radar screen are Cleveland's C.C. Sabathia, Oakland's Rich Harden, the Los Angeles Angels' Jon Garland and San Diego's Greg Maddux.

Anyone know why a first place team would trade one of their starters?

because one of their starters sucks? Even more confusing would be why the Cub would be interested when they have a team chock full of #3-#5 starters.

Bedard and Burnett are probably more realistic targets than any of those.

I think the young starters, Wood, Prior, Clement, Z, could really learn a lot from a cagey vet.

I'm gonna lose all the faith that I've slowly re-gained in Hendry if he makes some dumbass move like acquiring an averageish starter just cause he happens to be old.

You wouldn't have to give up much to get him is my guess.

 

I only want Maddux if we can get a front-line starter as well. Otherwise if we were to acquire just Maddux, there would be no doubt in my mind that Lou would have Gallagher as the odd man out in the rotation. Then you're stuck with a rotation of Z-Dempster-Lilly-Maddux-Marquis.

It would make no sense for the Angels to trade Garland.

I donno the Angels offense has been really bad of late. Trading a SP for a major league ready bat might be tempting for them. That being said I would rather have Burnett, Bedard, Sabathia, Harden over Garland.
