As I have said all along, Rich Harden ain't getting traded.

Which means, it could come down to either CC Sabathia or AJ Burnett for the starting pitcher, the Cubs should acquire. I know, the Cubs are said not to be interested in AJ, seeing as Oakland isn't going away, and unless another "top of the rotation pitcher" becomes available, I think the Cubs have to reevaluate AJ Burnett.

If he stays healthy up until the deadline and Beane can get true value for him, he absolutely will be traded. Why would Beane hang on to him? Like somebody else said, he's one more injury away from getting nothing for Harden at all when he walks.

Beane: Exactly. I’ve always said you’re either building something that’s special or you have something that’s special. In between is just no man’s land. That was really it. I felt like as good as the players were that we traded, we need a lot of good players to create something long-term.

I'm sure Billy knows that team is overachieving and not really contenders, and he knows Harden won't be part of their long term future. I see no reason why he wouldn't trade him.

Is Harden even a FA this season or next season?

Assuming 2003 doesn't count towards FA, this would be his 5th season that was part of my questioning. I would assume his extension would run through his last year before FA though.
