Patterson most definitely does NOT go back down right now.

Yeah, I think Hoffpauir is gone. It's too bad for him, but he'll get more shots with the club, and he'll likely be a big favorite for a bench spot next year. Your bench just has to fill certain gaps though in your ballclub, and the gap he would fit into is already covered on this team.

Murton's still a darkhorse to be sent down though just because of how much they like Hoffpauir.

Since EPatt can also play 2B I think Fontenot could be on the bubble.

No way they get rid of Fontenot. Lou is in love with the little guy.

I don't see Fontenot going down. He did just hit a HR himself on Saturday and who will participate in Zambrano's pre-game ritual if Fontenot is sent to Iowa?

I think Murton or Hauffpauir will be sent down when Marshall is activated; then the other one will go down for Ward. I think Patterson sticks around until Soriano returns and then he's probably sent packing.

Patterson is likely increasing his value for a trade at the deadline with his current performance.

Why would they trade Patterson? Don't they need a 2b for next year? He has shown alot of promise in the last couple of days. btw I know it is a small sample size, but he has still been impressive.

DeRosa is under contract through 2009.

They would trade him because they're going for it all this year. If Patterson helps get a Sabathia, Harden, Burnett, Harang, or any other piece that helps put us over the top, you make the deal. Our minor league system isn't overflowing with talent, and it may be guys like Patterson who have shown some ability at the big league level that will be needed to finish a deal since we lack high ceiling guys on the farm.

I thought this was Dero's last year. My bad.

They don't need to send both of them down. Reed Johnson going on the DL will keep one of those two safe for at least another 10 days or so.

Reed is indeed going on the DL, which could be a blessing in disguise. Whiel we all love, or at least like Reed, this could give Patterson and Hoffpauir more chances, and if they can make the most out of it, they could be some nice bargaining chips. Personally, Id rather move Hoff and keep Patt. Nothing against Hoff, but if Patt can step up, he could very well be our starting second baseman in 2010.
