just for clarification purposes...

earlier this week tim promoted liz from his minor league roster to start a game. after the game, he was sent back to tim's minor league roster. liz is under the minor league limits. tim had a maxed out roster of 18 when he called liz up, meaning that for that day (while liz was on his active roster) his roster stood at 19, which is one over the limit.

first of all, i'm pretty sure it was established last season that you can't use your minor league roster as an expanded bench. that is, you can't call guys up midweek from your minor league roster to start games, even if you somehow make room for that guy by dropping someone else or something.

secondly, i don't think there is any question you can't have a roster of 19 at any time. i get that you can have an overflowing bench to prevent you from going over the 7 start limit, but i don't think that means you can go over the overall roster limit of 18 for any reason. even if you're allowed to bring a minor league guy up midweek (which i don't think you can), you certainly can't bring him up to a full roster without dropping somebody or, at the very least, sending someone on your active roster down to the minors.

obviously this doesn't matter much for this week (though tim and i are duking it out for high score of the week :D ), but it should be cleared up.

My understanding is that you can move minor leaguers up and down as long as they maintain minor league eligibility, but there has to be a major league roster spot for that player. So if Tim had dropped a player from his existing roster (or legally transferred a player to an open DL slot) then I think he would be allowed to move the player up and back down. I did that myself with Matt Murton a few years ago.

yea, you can't move guys up midweek to get a start and you certainly cannot go over the roster limit.

What a relief. All this time I was thinking that the top scorer of the week wasn't going against my team for once.

I predict Buddiga scores 600 this coming week.

as always, i am right.
You may be right, but you're behind me in the standings. :D

i guess it only takes one decent 1/3 of a season for a guy to put his past failures behind him. that's positive thinking right there.
