It seems every team weve faced lately has been missing key players.

Pads: no Peavy, Young

Rox:no Hawpe, Holliday, Tulo

Dodgers: no Jones, Furcal

Braves: no Smoltz, Jones, at least for a few games.

Rays will likely be without someone due to the Red Sox battle royal.

The Baseball Gods seem to want this to be the year. The question is, do the Cubs?

The Cubs could be the 1927 Yankees incarnate, and the other 29 teams could field [expletive] donkeys for an entire season, and even then I'm still not 100% convinced the Cubs wouldn't find some way to choke.

Most of the rest of the NL is getting a similar benefit as us. Those guys you listed are missing significant time against everyone else as well. Where we are fortunate (knock on wood) isn't that our opponents aren't healthy, but rather that we are.

Obviously, there other opponents get the same benefit, but the fact that were facing them all in a string is helpful. I mean look at the Rockies. We miss Hawpe, he comes back for the Brewers, and hits 2 home runs that ultimately decide both games.

We've had a little bit of that against us as well. Remember Cameron coming off of the DL for Milwaukee and playing like an all-star? Only to regress against the rest of the league...

The Brewers have been catching a lot of lightening in a bottle lately. What the hells up with Kaplar, Branyan, and Torres?

If JJ Hardy and Ricky Weeks get hot while those other guys are still hitting, that becomes a pretty scary offense.

This actually hurt us.

I'm not sure about that. Have you seen Jones's numbers against Marquis? He could have won Sunday's game by himself.
